"childproof" outlet covers |
| |
| I dont understand those cheap plastic plugs that cover the electrical outlets. When I was younger I babysat a little one year old boy who loved to walk around and pull them all out. They were useless lol Now my daughter is doing the exact same thing. At least she leaves the plug alone after she takes the cover off lol I'm very thankful that she hasn't figured out how to open the safety locked cabinets yet. What childproof things have your little ones figured out how to operate? | | | | | |

| | All Of Them!!!! LOL. My sons like to figure everything out. I never used the outlet covers just told them not to touch. The cabinet locks work ok untill they pull them open as hard as they can a few times!! We tried a refrigerator lock when the boys were almost 2 and 4. Yeah well they figured that out in like a day!! You had to unlock it then push a button to turn the alarm off. One would unlock it and the other would push the button!!! God I really dont think childproof means childproof, more like keeps them ocupied for a few!! LOL | | | | | | |

| | I had a very dangerous experience with my young son, same thing too "childproof". Well we have lots of asprin, and lots of vitamens around. My son had found some my husband left out, and opened the bottle. The lid was child safety locked, or supposed to be. Well needless to say I caught him before he ingested any, thank god. I really don't know what I would've done if he'd of eaten any, i'd be sueing thats for sure. | | | | | | |

| | I'm so glad you caught him in time! My uncle was caught with aspirin when he was a little boy. He didn't talk much yet but his mom knew he ate it because he had the white powder on his lips. She got him to the doctor in time thank goodness. There are so many dangers out there! | | | |

| | My 5 yr. old can open the medication bottles that were designed to keep children out of them easier than I can.... We used the plastic outlet covers, as well....once they reached a certain age they could also unplug them....but like your daughter they never messed with the outlet itself.... | | | | | | |

| | The only childproof things we have that Elliott hasn't figured out yet are the little strap things that you put on cabinets that have two handles close together. It's not actually that he hasn't figured it out, it's just that his hands are too small to hold both buttons at the same time, and then still have the other hand free to pull! lol He knows how to get into the cabinets that just have the push down locks, though. So the only place that we can store stuff that he needs to stay out of is in the two cabinets that have the handles close together, and the freestanding cabinet that has a lock and key on it. Or things that are too high for him to reach. But he does know how to pull out the drawers to varying degrees and climb up on top of the counter! And if we leave the babygate up where he can stand on the part that you adjust, he uses it to climb over! He's a handful. lol | | | | | | |

| | I wish those things were no longer on the market. Most kids learn to pull them off and they are dangerous. They are choking hazards. A good rule of thumb is if an item can fit through a tube of toilet paper it can choke a child. Those plug covers fail this test. | | | | | | |

| | My daughter will be a year on the 1st. So far she hasn't done anything like that but I'm sure she will soon hahah. I've heard many stories about how those this are useless. They have ones that when the baby pulls a cord out of the plug, something slams shut so they cant get it. I want some of those! | | | | | | |

| | My son pulled those out as soon as he was crawling around. I was so proud of myself for having all the child safety stuff, and I had to go around pulling the outlet covers out of his mouth. I ended up taking them off so he wouldn't choke on them. No the cabinet safety locks were not to bad, they kept him out for a good while. I usually just made sure I had anything poisoness put up in a high cabinet that he couldn't get into. What really would have been useful was something that would childproof their own body. LOL I pulled more food, buttons, beads, etc. out of noses, ears, and other places more then I had to worry about him getting into anything. Maybe they could come out with a ear cover or nostril net of some kind. | | | | | | |

| | My kids figured all of the 'childproof' things out! I had my house childproofed within an inch of its life! lol I do think those outlet covers that are screwed on are good, though. They cover the outlet and any plug that's in it. | | | | | | |

| | Oh I hated those things when my children were smaller! They always took them out and I ended up pulling them out of their mouths! One of my children was gagging and coughing as the outlet cover had gone so deep in his throat! I had a 'child gate' at the top of the stairs and my oldest son (when he was young) was a master at removing it! I'm telling you, watching a small child is hard work!! One has to stay on their toes and one step ahead of them at all times! | | | | | | |

| | we have safety lock thigs on the cupboards in the kitchen, and while my daughter hasn't figured them out yet, she is fascinated with them. Everytime we leave it open she grabs it and tries to put it back on etc. | | | | | | |
