Toddlers Drown While Baby Sitter Sleeps

Two toddlers one 20 months and the other 2 years old, were put down for a nap by their 18 year old babysitter, who then took a nap herself. While the babysitter slept the two girls woke up and got out of the house and went down to a pond nearby where the babysitter later found them. She frantically tried C.P.R., but it was to late.
This is a very sad story. I can understand, however, how this happened. When I was eighteen, I baby sat my niece every day, while her mom went to work and sometimes it was very hard to do the things that I needed to do with a baby along. I am sure that there were times when I got sleepy when I was taking care of her.
Then at 19, my other sister had a baby and I was taking care of both of them and it was even harder, but I managed it. I think that if I had been this girl and I needed a nap also, I would have laid down with them and maybe put my arm over them, so if they moved, it would wake me up.
The house should have been secure enough that a two year old could not get out though. Let's be honest here. Say the babysitter was constipated and could not leave the restroom, the two year old would still need to be secure in that house. Hopefully the babysitter did not leave the house open.
This is just really unnerving for me. I hope that the babysitter is not charged for anything in this case. I mean there has been enough tragedy and she hast to feel bad enough, since she was related to one of the children.

This is a sad story for everyone all around. I am sorry this happend to the parents and the teenager. I hope this is true and the teenage did fall asleep and she did not drowned the children.
You are right the house should have been secured espically if they lived near anybody of water. I am so upset the parents did not have some type of system in place to keept the children safe. Poor babies I am sure they are back with God where they are safe.
