Trapped Man cuts off own Leg! |
|
I was quite taken with the bravery of this man. American My Lotters may be more familiar with this story. Apparently a man who was pinned under a tree, had to partially amputate his left leg with a pocket knife. Age 66 years, and was clearing trees when one fell on top of him. He was trapped in a remote area, with no mobile phone access, for 10 hours. He was eventually found by another local, who heard his cries for help.

2. trinidadvelasco (9110) | 3 years ago | that is a very difficult thing to do. it is easy to have somebody else to do the cutting. cutting it by himself needed much strength, courage and the guts to do carry it out despite feeling the pain himself as the act of cutting goes on progress. now, i see even more the need for a buddy whenever one goes out to perform a task. we can never tell what will happen even in the safest places that we thought to be. you are right about the cellphone could have saved him from much trouble.

jennybianca (6359) | 3 years ago | I agree. It is best not to go alone in any remote area, regardless of how safe one thinks it is.

4. charms88 (4698) | 3 years ago | Hello jenny. This is an extraordinary story. The man has been courageous all throughout his ordeal. I can't know how it feels like to amputate your own leg. I would have easily give up when faced with a situation like this. This man is worthy to follow as a good model for being brave and tough.

jennybianca (6359) | 3 years ago | Three days is a very long time! Parts of Australia are very remote too, and occassdionally we hear of bad situations where people have been trapped. We have the Royal Flying Doctor service which is a great help in emergencies.
I have visited a few places in Canada. What place did you grow up in?

susaneverson (4945) | 3 years ago | I grew up outside of the city of Williams Lake in British Columbia. It is very hilly and wooded. He was very weak when the neighbour found him. The only thing that kept him alive was a little water that he was near enough to reach. Susan

7. mizrae (502) | 3 years ago | This is similar to a story not too long ago about a mountain climber (I think) who had to remove part of a limb to get free. I remember thinking then as now that I could not do this. Maybe other things, but not this. This shows such a will to live. I know accidents happen, but you hope they don't happen to you. When they do you hope you will have the strength to do what this man had to do.

8. Willowlady (8982) | 3 years ago | Sometimes we have to do things that normally we would not. Until we are in a situation we still don't know what we would do. I think I would have dug under the leg and tree to find a way to lessen the pressure and get released. Of course if was crushed then he would have went into shock and maybe bled to death. Fascincating really.

9. Megzzz (761) | 3 years ago | That's really amazing. I hope he recovers quickly. Maybe the government should have a remote or satellite tv there to monitor that area. Accidents happen unexpectedly and they should anticipated that.
