Can u take 10 seconds away from your busy schedule? |
|
Here is a chance to make a difference, by devoting JUST 10 seconds a day.
You don't need to go anywhere, donate money, stage protests or shout slogans.
How? If you use computer to work, just remember to switch off your monitor every time you leave your desk. Very simple, isn't it?
What difference does it make? Roughly, normal monitors consume around 150 W.Even if your screen remains ON for 1 hour per day without any use, energy wasted per day is 150 W-h (or 0.15 "units").
This is enough to light a small lamp for 10 hours! If you care to switch off your monitor each time you leave your place, you save electricity enough for basic household needs of a small family in a village!
If your monitor remains ON overnight, this figure becomes 10-fold - so you can probably save electricity for 10 families. And supposing that you leave your seat 5 times a day and it takes 1 second to switch the monitor ON/OFF,you spend only 10 seconds a day for this deed which saves LOTS of energy on a long run!
I hope you will follow this practice... I am sure you Can take 10 seconds away from your busy schedule? because
Energy saved is energy produced!!

2. mihimolly (4889) | 3 years ago | Wow that is very interesting. Really we have always done that for selfish reasons in our house because when we had windows 95,it would get stuck trying to defrgament if we left it on screensaver. it was a second hand computer and monitor and the old company logo (ex rental PC) was burned into the monitor. Im glad it has been being power saving aswell. I never even thought about how much it saved by not being on.

5. webeishere (12489) | 3 years ago | This isn't always the case actually. If the monitor is Energy Star then it doesn't use it when left on. Mine will turn off on it's own after a few minutes of nonuse so it saves energy this way. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB!!~

6. rkbehera1 (1687) | 3 years ago | you have initiated a very good discussion.Energy is the most talked word globally. The cost of energy going northward and putting extra burden on consumers.so we should think how to save electricity.Yes putting a monitor off takes only 10 seconds and through this action we save valuable energy.yes you have rightly stated the phrase about energy production and saving.

7. dana234 (1355) | 3 years ago | Thanks for the reminder. I used to do this with my old computer (a dinosaur) but I leave the current one on if I´m not working on it and I´m just doing other things but I´m still nearby. It switches itself off on it´s own after a few minutes, same thing that someone else mentioned here before. Mind you, it wouldn´t even occur to me to leave it on overnight or when I go out. That would be like leaving the stereo or television on all the time and as far as I know, nobody does this.

9. skewedsolipsism (162) | 3 years ago | Computer monitors DO take up alot of power. Mine are very bright and I have to turn them down so they are dimmer before using them every day (we have dual monitors in my office so I am always looking at two screens). It's amazing how much energy can be saved!

10. GardenGerty (20526) | 3 years ago | Thanks for that idea. Besides saving energy for the sake of energy, it will save energy from my bill that I pay every month. Not only that, it will reduce the heat output and save energy for cooling my home, or make my home more comfortable if I do not choose to cool it. My only question is, will this be hard on the monitor and cause it problems? Will it wear out the switch?
