Should British Police be allowed to carry firearms?  |

|  This morning another police officer dies here in the UK from a fatal stabbing attack, when are they going to arm our police, this may of been prevented if he was armed.
Most of the criminals carry firearms, but it seems that the standard policeman does not, how are they to defend themselves when faced when an armed suspect.
What are your views on this?

| |  Im for arming police to some extent, mostly as I have seen both the pros and cons of it here in the US. What needs to accompany firearms, is training. Two types: One, how to shoot, Two, how to deal with a crisis situation and know WHEN to shoot.
In several of our local municipalities here in the US, we're great at #1, but not as good at #2. A lot of the rest of the country is good in both, but the exceptions are what ends up on the evening news or leading the way to legislation.

| |  I don't really know since I'm an American but how is it working for you without them?
I still can't believe they can't carry them and don't understand the reasoning behind it. Even though our officers here carry them they are still not on a level playing field because there are so many more weapons out there that are more dangerous than the ones they are using.
There is a town here in the U.S. where it is mandatory to have a gun to live there. Their crime rate is zero because the playing field is zero.
