Music Lessons - What Were The First Things You Learned?  email this discussion to a friend?

Okay, we all learned to read music, and the scales. And the "Hip Hop to the Candy Shop" or whatever (especially if it was piano.) But do you remember what the first pieces of music were that you actually had fun playing?

My piano teacher taught me from a book of Gershwin, and I just loved those songs, still do. I did have a lot of classical music to study as well, and I liked a lot of it. I remember the Blue Danube Waltz was a lot of fun because I learned swing bass to go along with the waltz, and I don't know just how to describe it, but my left hand felt so cool doing that!

When I picked up guitar, my teacher was as deep into folkie music as I was so I had the Joan Baez and Bob Dylan songbooks and learned all that stuff. I remember learning "Amazing Grace" as one of my first songs, and some Judy Collins songs "Thirsty Boots" and "Anathea."

How about you? What was the first music you learned that you had fun with?

Hello Hannah "waving"

The first musical instrument I learned was piano and I hated it, LOL. I was around 10 that time and my mother forced me to take the course. I lasted for a year then switched to organ player. Again, I despised it. I just can't say no to my mother. On both times, I never enjoyed it.

When I was 12, my father enrolled me in Chinese guitar lesson. It was not boring but still, there was no joy learning it for 2 years. I concluded that I have no inclination nor passion for any musical instruments.

Hey, if you don't feel it you don't feel it, lol. I started my piano lessons when I was six. My mom played piano and it looked like a lot of fun, so I actually asked if I could learn how.
