What is your favorite tool on a Swiss Army knife? |
| |
| You know, that marvelous knife that comes in a variety of styles. Some have fewer tools than others. It has been copied hundreds of times. But I'm talking about a genuine version. What tool do you like the best? Other than the knife blades, what tool(s) do you find you use most often? | | | | | |

| | I like the scissors. They are very helpful and handy, instead of having to take an ordinary scissors with you, just pull this one, and here you go. | | | | | | |

| | I'm with you on this, cerium. The scissors are really handy to have. It's not a common need but you are right, who carries scissors around with them everyday? | | | |

| | Hello diecaster Wow! What a delightfully, wonderful Discussion!! I can't believe that more people aren't here, especially those who are Swiss. I can only guess that people have read your Discussion and are giving serious thought as to which tool they favor, before venturing a response. It is hard for me to name a favorite, although the scissors are in the front running. I also like the corkscrew. I used to use the corkscrew when I was a child. It was a good tool for drilling into a tree. Why I drilled into a tree, I do not know, but I did. The toothpick is also nice to have. I have found that it's better to use than a bent paperclip. I think that I recently saw Swiss Knife (a small one) with a flashlight. It could have been a knock off, but I'm not sure. The scissors do seem like the best, most useful tool, for exactly the reason that the first responder gave. :) Did I tell you what an excellent Discussion this is, diecaster? If I were you, I would consider getting some rest in preparation for the onslaught of responses you will be getting soon. | | | | | | |

| | I bow my head in an attitude of humbleness, Transdisc, in deference to your kind words concerning the topic of this discussion. While I would certainly desire to attach personal credit for the inspiration to publish same, I have to, out of respect for not only my moral stance on intellectual property, but also my respect for veteran Mylot participants dictates that I give credit where credit is due: Thanks for the great idea, friend! diecaster;) | | | |

| | Hello Diecaster, I will admit that I've never even openned some of the features on mine. The bottle openner is a real storage-saver, when camping. Of course, with screw-off bottle caps, this isn't as much of a big deal. I can say that the little screwdriver has definitely gotten me out of more than a pickle, or two. I guess aside from the blade, that the screwdriver is probably the other feature that I use most. However, if they're looking to improve their classic design, I'd love to see them add a nail-clipper to the myriad of other goodies on the gizmo. | | | | | | |

| | Interesting thought, Ladyluna, adding a nail clipper to the knife. I've never really thought about other tools added to the current design(s). Oh, the possibilites! Yes, cheers for the bottle opener and screwdrivers that open to the end of the knife: not the phillips head on mine that opens perpendicular to the knife body. It tends to close on my fingers if I really torque on it. | | | |

| | Hello Diecaster, I imagine your hands are much larger than mine. I rather like the fact that it opens perpendicuarly. I use the rest of the closed knife unit for stability. Perhaps the original designer had ladies hands? Oooo, I could probably ignite a firestorm with that comment. I'd better retract that. Perhaps the original designer had smaller scale hands. Is that better? | | | |
