|  Last night on PBS a star studded two hour musical extravaganza aired. The United States Library of Congress gave Paul Simon it's first ever Gershwin Award for his contributions to popular music.
The special was a two hour tribute to Paul Simon's nearly half-century musical career and had some of the greatest musicians from many genres performing his songs.
I watched this special and loved every minute of it, especially the performances by Ladysmith Black Mambazo and when Art Garfunkel came out to do Bridge Over Troubled Water with Paul Simon.

| |  I didn't see the special, but I LOVE his music. I guess I am more partial to the music when he was with Garfunkel.

| | The special was awesome, James Taylor performed a lot of the old Simon and Garfunkel tunes.
My little girl loves Simon and Garfunkel because as a baby her playpen was right by where we have the stereo and I used to play their CDs all the time. First she bopped along on her hands and knees, then she was able to pull herself up to a standing position swaying to the music, and finally, she was dancing in the playpen! One of her favorites was Cecelia. I used to sing the Sound of Silence to her as a lullaby when she was an infant. It worked nearly every time.
Lyle Lovett performed Fifty Ways to Leave Your Lover. It was fantastic.
I would bet that this special will air again and if you contact PBS you might be able to get your hands on a VHS or DVD of the 2 hour show. It is well worth the effort to find it.

| |  OOPSIE! I forgot about it & missed it. He's been around throughout the 1970's, becoming famous with Art Garfunkel. Ever since the duo split, he has been very active & successful in the music business, & he still is going strong.
As to Art Garfunkel coming out to do "Bridge" with Paul Simon, it does seem that the reunion trend of older musicians & bands is also going strong. VanHalen is trying to have a reunion album & tour, & even the Scorpions have had past band members join them on stage.

wonderful. IMHO Paul Simon most definitely
deserved the Gershwin award. My fave is Bridge Over Troubled Waters. Cecelia reminds me of the song I thought of when my relationship with my Sicilian descended boyfriend ended. Sicilian your breaking my heart. Sung to the tune of Cecelia. lol
