Have you ever 'lost' time? |
|
Something happened to me 40 years ago and it still bugs me today. I can remember it quite clearly. Whan I was 15/16 I had a pal who lived about three miles away from my house. To walk there I had to go along an isolated path through fields and woods. I was never afraid even though I did the walk in the dark lots of times. It was all very familiar to me. The walk took me about 40 minutes each way. One evening after doing my homework I set off to go to my friend's house and when I got there he said 'where have you been?' It had taken me ONE HOUR and 40 minutes from leaving the house to arriving at my friends. I didn't stop, I didn't talk to anybody, the walk was as normal, just like I'd done it dozens of times. What happened to my missing hour? Has this ever happened to you?

1. mightycrumbgirl (289) | 1 year ago | One hour is a big chunk of time to lose without realizing it! That is very strange! Um, I don't think this has ever happened to me... I might look at the clock and think 'where did my day go?', but I've never just lost an hour without realizing it. I have to admit though, I'm a pretty big time-waster - I like to loll around finding little frivolous pointless things to fill my time, so if I ever did lose time, I don't think I would notice... Well, I'm stumped on this one...maybe you stepped into some sort of vortex or portal that only seemed like a few seconds, but really it was an hour... or is that too far fetched?:o)

2. rhinoboy (1361) | 1 year ago | Perhaps it was the start of daylight savings and he'd moved his clock forward?! lol My brother did a similar thing recently. We'd been at his place (about 15-20 minute walk from mine) enjoying a few herbal cigarettes together. As it got later, I walked home and he came along to walk the dog. His girlfriend told me a day or two later that he'd taken 4 hours from leaving with me to returning home. I knew it had only take about half an hour for me to get home so he should've been an hour tops. Apparently he'd decided to take the long route home and had a little sit down on the way! My only personal experience of 'losing time' was completely drug induced. Teenager home alone with parents on holiday, two or three friends round for smoky smoky, next thing you know it's three days later - we had barely left the room never mind the house. It was fun though!

Noot54 (4444) | 1 year ago | Rhinoboy, I know whereof you speak. If you can remember the 60's you weren't there and all that stuff. I have had three day hangovers in my time, too. On this occasion I was completely substance-free which is why it bugged me so much. Twenty years later I wrote a sci-fi novel based on the event but it didn't get published. Now that I have had one book published I might dig out the manuscript and see if I can update it.

mightycrumbgirl (289) | 1 year ago | hehe - smoky smoky! This used to happen to my roommate. He used to spend all his time and money on the little green buds of joy... we used to go into his room to find him sitting there listlessly, telling us "oh, I haven't slept for 3 days..." so funny!:o)

Jmustra (100) | 1 year ago | There are reports of people driving that fall asleep and drive for mile before waking up, without crashing, it has something to do with the brain, if you do a path many times you brain uncosnciously memorizes it, probably you fell asleep on your feet, or had some kind of momentum disorder, and yet you kept moving, but maybe much slower. I once completly shut off my brain, when i was a kid, I blinked and It was another day, really, I had the perception of blinking and I woke up in another day, It was really really awesome!!! But I never could do it again...I wish I could because it was really cool, like a brain reboot or something, because although I probably sleept more then 12 hours, for me, those 12 hours passed in half a sec.

Noot54 (4444) | 1 year ago | I like the idea of a brain 'reboot' and like you, I wish I could do it now. More like a clean Windows reinstall so I could clear out all the garbage! What do you think of this idea?

rhinoboy (1361) | 1 year ago | I like the idea, but knowing my luck I'd suffer sever system malfunction and be in for a lengthy repair job!

4. lexus54 (1938) | 1 year ago | The only times I'd lost significant time getting somewhere were the times I was driving around overseas, where the maps were not so clear and I took the wrong turnings. In some of these places, you don't realise you've gone on the wrong track until some distance later when the landmarks don't seem familiar as what you'd expect from reading the maps. Only then you realise you've gone on the wrong turn way back somewhere and you need to backtrack and start again. I really don't know what happened in your case. Maybe the flowers smelled very sweet that evening (some flowers smell very fragrant before a rain), and you kept stopping along the way and got mesmerized by all the smells...LOL. I guess the only person who can really solve your puzzle is you!! Hope you can unravel the mystery.

6. Ravenladyj (14064) | 1 year ago | I've lost time but not like what you described, which is very creepy I must say.....I have lost time due to drug and alcohol abuse though..I lost over a day actual..because I had gotten myself SO messed up I passed out for almost 2 full days!! As far as what happened to you though, do you have seizures or anything like that? Cause other than maybe being abducted by aliens LOL;-) a seizure is the only thing I could think of that would cause that... thats trippy...it really is and I dont know how I would react to that come to think of it..especially since you definately remember that you didnt stop or do anything different..

Noot54 (4444) | 1 year ago | Once upon a time alien abduction would have been my favourite theory and it sounds so exotic, doesn't it? As I get older I find myself forgetting stuff all the time and I wonder if it was a teenage precursor to that sort of thing. My wife says she's waited 30 years for the little green men to come and take me away but she's still hopeful....

7. JanuaryRain (642) | 1 year ago | I have never had that happen -- but I'd love to go back in time to be a fly on the wall & find out what happened in your case! That is a very eerie story. You're sure your friend didn't goof around with the clock or something?

8. filmbuff (1328) | 1 year ago | I had some similar happen with my family but it was the reverse. We would often travel to visit relatives on the weekends. It was a little over 60 miles away, and took roughly and hour to drive each way. One day we left their place to return home and made the drive in around 20 minutes. It's impossible to drive to that fast, and my father swears (and it's easy to tell) that he wasn't speeding, and there is no way we were going that fast. Both of my parents didn't remember seeing certain parts of the drive, like they missed it entirely. I remember when we got home we are all so amazed that we called our relatives at their home whom we had left 20 mintutes ago. They didn't believe us, until we had them call us back on our home phone. (This was before caller id) It was a very strange experience. Honestly I cannot think of a scientific or reasonable explanation for it.

filmbuff (1328) | 1 year ago | You're welcome, it is kind of spooky. That happened over 20 years ago and I still think about it from time to time. When I read your experience it was the first thing that sprang to mind.
