Does a 50" plasma TV display a better picture ratio than a 42"? | | Well, I was told that the picture displayed on a 42" must be modified/adjusted/downsized/et... in order to be properly displayed. I was also told that with a 50", no adjustments need to be made to the picture, thus allowing a viewer to see the picture almost exactly as it should be. Basically, I am wondering whether this is true or not, i.e., is the picture "modified" for a 42" and "unmodified" for 50" and larger?

For instance, most HDTV plasma displays are designed to display 720p HDTV broadcasts (720 lines of vertical resolution). However, many stations broadcast in 1080i (1080 lines), which gets downconverted to 720 to display on your TV. In this case you are losing some resolution when compared to the original broadcasts. Currently I don't believe that there are any plasmas that can display a 1080i signal natively. You would need to look at a DLP, LCoS, LCD, or CRT for that.
