Tim McGraw and Faith Hill's I need you song, do you think the line.............  

Even thou I love the song, I've wondered about that line myself. I mean, why would a needle need a vein if it doesn't relate to drug use? If they are thinking along medical lines, I can see it being ok because whenever the nurses need to find my husband's veins, they have a tough time so that line I can relate to for medical reasons.

I haven’t really listened to the song much- But I didn’t know it said that- and I’m surprised that they would sing a song with that line in it- They are both great singers- and more important role models- People listen to songs to get their meaning- I don’t like it- It is drug use- I would think- I don’t do drugs and it’s the first thing that comes to my mind when I read your line!

I haven't yet heard the song you've mentioned, but if the line is 'like a needle needs a vein' that doesn't promote drug use at all to me. Medical needles exist for veins, such as when giving an IV., which can save someones life. I suppose there are some people, such as Jehovah's Witnesses, who may be offended by the subject of using these types of medical procedures. But as the line reads, a needle has no reason to exist apart from the life that it can give when properly used.

If the line had been, 'like a vein needs a needle' I would be reminded of drug use, but I still don't think that it would bother me, as the song speaks of need and desire for one another, and I can relate to that without having to abuse drugs.

Wow. People need to quit being so easily offended. Seriously.

A needle needs a vein...of COURSE it does, that or "piece of fleshy tissue", which doesn't have the same ring to it. A needle can be filled with a cure, a disease, or even a drug!

AND...thinking literally isn't always the answer! Often, love is so strong that it feels like an addiction. Hence, veins and needles and whathave you. It's a reference to the strength of an emotion, not to promote drugs. That entire notion is ridiculous.

There are some things that just don't need to be picked apart.
I have been writing since I was a child and there are some things that are very hard to convey or that fit within the content of the song, story, poem,,,,but taken out of content makes no sense or is interpreted wrong.
In the content of the song it makes sense and shouldn't be taken out. Susan
