Do you think Myspace is a good thing for new and upcoming bands?

My friend from college started a band and uses Myspace quite a bit for it. It's a good way to show band pictures, have people listen to your music, have people comment to you, and also post bulletins of upcoming concerts. You can also have friends added to this or other bands so people can surf around and see what they like. I do think it's good for those starter bands....absolutely.

Myspace would be really good, except for the little clause they have in their terms of use. Myspace has sole rights for any material posted on their site. So if you upload songs that you have done yourself, Myspace could claim them and distribute them themselves and not pay you a dime for it. Myspace used to be a really cool site...then Tom sold out, and everything started messing up, and now it has turned into just another meat market site. I have an account with them still, but only use it for my real friends and family. I had to set it to private, add all the privacy features so i would stop getting adds from perverts and people who only wanted advertising space. Thats kinda why i come here now,...lol

I think MySpace has helped out a lot of up and coming artists...if you ever hear of a band that you don't know about, you used to have to go download and sometimes you can't even find the band! But now, you can check out their myspace!!!

I'd say it helps. If it gets there name out to the public, it can turn out to be a great thing. I do agree with what you're saying though.

yea, it's pretty good for new bands.

indeed ... the easy way to promote your band, free and efective for bands that not have enough fund to own their website. perhaps TOS is not matters for musician that not concern about a dime for what they work for, aslong people listen to their songs and coming to their gig's.

yes i believe the same thin gs as well it is a good way to get recognized by many other people good way to get your music out there. you can out your latest cd or newest song an people comment an it can make your future music better. many people use the site for many reasons why not to help promote your band.
