Why do we cross our fingers

I think it symbolizes your strong wish of something, especially when (back on those school days) you will be called by a professor or you don't want to be the one reprimanded, or in work when the supervisor announces someone will be fired and in a surprise, just a habit, But these days I don't often cross my fingers, just a strong wish, a wish you really want to come true, wanting something to be real ..thanks..yes, accompanied by good lucks!!!^^

Well first of all my mother never told me to do this. I only learned this from my friends and I only used to do it when I was a kid. From then on I came away from such sentimental things and therefore I don't do it no more now.

That is a very common thing for people to do for luck still! A lot of kids also do it when they aren't telling the truth - I have no idea why they do either of those things - wonder if anyone knows? xx

I do not know why Americans keep their fingers crossed. Germans sqeeze their thumb instead. So admit it. it must be some kind of woodoo mumbo jumbo.
It just means to wish luck.

As you said we should cross our fingers so I would get what I wished. It's like wishing for good luck. I do croos my fingers for this reason.

We have one more reason to cross our fingers. When some gives us a swear of our loved one, and we have our fingers crossed, the sware doesnt applies to us.

In hindi we say, "tujhe meri kasam". If we have the fingers crossed at this moment, the sware does not applies. Hope this doesnt sound you funny.

yes, we still cross our finger or touch wood to drive away bad luck when we are talking about the good things that have happened or if we want them to happen, each culture has it/s own sign but they are all there to give hope to humanity - hope the greatest gift of God that came out of the Pandora's box.

I am not brought up in such a culture to cross my fingers if I want to have something. I think it sounds reasonable to wish for good luck. It looks like the cross.

I used to cross my fingers, but I think it is a bit of a superstition, so I rarely do it now. I tend to say "fingers crossed" but I think that is more of a habit, as in all honesty I don't think it makes any difference:-)

Thats exactly what it is. Wishing for good luck. I see people still doing it today. I don't however. I believe if I am going to have good luck it is Gods choice and I would much rather say a prayer than cross my fingers.

ha!ha!ha! I do beleive that too! I still cross my finger! but untel now it didn't happen what I am like to have and wish.
