2008 Presidential Election |
| |
| If you're a citizen of the United States, will you be voting in the 2008 presidential election? If you do plan on voting, and today was election day, who would you vote for to become the next president of the United States? And why would you vote for this person? We haven't come to the primary election yet, but there are so many choices out there right now. I'm pretty sure that there are many people out there that are undecided, so maybe if you're able to share your ideas as to why you might be voting for the particular candidate, you might help a person make a decision. | | 2008 Election | | | | |

| | I am a citizen of the United States. I have voted in every election since I turned eighteen. If the election were to be held today, I would probably vote for Barack Obama. The reason I would vote for him is that he seems to hold most of the same views on the issues that I do. He's also a very gifted speaker, and someone who seems to genuinely care about the country and the people. | | | | | | |

| | Obama definitely has a lot of the same views that I have as well. But, I'm still split because he doesn't have as much experience as so many of the other candidates on the democrat side. Luckily the primary isn't until next year, so I still have time to research. | | | |

| | Fred Thompson, easy choice. A true blood conservative, can energize a base that fells like it has been screwed for to long. His got that southern draw that makes them excellent in front of a microphone. Stage presents that cannot be beat. Use Rudy as a Vice-President and you have a winning ticket. Southern conservative with a New York moderate, unites the ticket, and makes it stronger that the two lefty from the Dems side. | | | | | | |

| | Thanks for your thoughts. I probably won't vote for him because I usually vote Democrat. Democrats have views that are closer to mine then Republicans. But, if Fred Thompson were President, it would definitely be interesting seeing someone from my favorite television show in the oval office (Law and Order). | | | |

| | Fred has my vote 100% I live in the town where he is from. Everyone here wants him to run. If you came here you would never hear a bad word about him. I have never had the privledge to meet him but he is a close friend of my family. He still has relatives that live here and they are all well respected. Fred is a good man, and would be an even better president | | | |

| | If I am a blessed American citizen, I would definitely vote in the presidential election. This coming election will be proven to be one of the most crucial in the American history. The United States is now standing at the great crossroad of its nationhood. I would probably choose that popular black candidate if ever he got to be chosen by the Democrats. The next White House will be presided by the Democrats. | | | | | | |

| | If only more people wanted to vote like you. IN the United States, there is an outrageous amount of people that could vote, but don't. It's unfortunate. | | | |

| | I am an American Citizen and became one many years ago LEGALLY. I always vote - if I am away from the US I vote absentee. I feel if I vote I have no reason to complain because with my vote I have tried to make a difference. I am registered as a Republican so would vote Republican in the Primary. I haven't made up my mind yet who will get my vote. Even if I was voting Democrat the one person I would NOT vote for is Hilary Clinton and I sincerely hope that many more feel the same way. | | | | | | |

| | You say you became and American Citizen legally. Is it possible in the United States to become a citizen illegally? Or did you confuse the difference between a resident and a citizen? | | | |

| | Hello Jessicalynmartin, It is not my nature to be caustic. Having said that, I wish to point out that I am not being argumentative. I'm just curious about which of your values today's Democrat party seems to reflect. Years ago I changed party affiliation from the Dem's to the GOP, because the Dem party long ago abandoned the JFK principles. So, I'm just wondering if today's Dem party really reflects your true values, or if you believe the party to be the same party of your parents and grandparents. Please don't feel like you need to answer this as a direct question. I've really just presented this for self-exploration purposes. I hope you don't mind. Anyway, yes I'll be voting. I've never missed a single national election. If the election were held today, then Fred Thompson would not be running, because he hasn't officially thrown his hat in the ring yet. So, I would be left with the only experienced candidates, who have not embraced the socialist party platform: Joe Biden(D), Romney(R), Guiliani(R), Huckabee(R), Tancredo(R), Hunter (R), or Paul(Libertarian/running as R). Of these It would be between Huckabee and Romney. If they were on the same ticket, it would be a no brainer. If Thompson had thrown his hat in, and emerged victorious through the primary process, then Thompson would trump the other candidates. The reason why is because I personally believe that Thompson is what this country most needs today. He is a moderate conservative -- which means that his political leanings are quite consistent with conservative Dem's (or JFK Dem's) and moderate GOP's. As for my views of who would affect the greatest positive change in Washington, no doubt it would be Romney. He is a corporate muck-raker who is quite comfortable making difficult choices that reflect the greatest interest of the organization. I believe that he would be first in line to truly shake up D.C., and get the ball rolling on the "Consuption Tax" reformation. Yet, America's biggest problem today is the dangerously divided state of affairs between Dem & GOP. I believe that healing this rift must be elevated to top priority. So, Thompson it is, for me anyway. I will say though that I would vote for Biden (Dem) before I would vote for Ron Paul, or even Tancredo. Not because I don't like and respect Tancredo -- but because neither Paul nor Tancredo will help to heal this horrible rift between the American People. Until we begin to function again as a single nation, not a divided nation, then we cannot stand together to tackle the tough global issues of the day. So, to see a return to the glory days of a unified USA, I would give up my preferential vote for Romney, and true domestic political reform. Anyone who also feels that this divisive rift is dangerously damaging our ability to function as a nation, is welcome to check on Thompson's Senate voting record, where they will clearly see that he voted with the conservative Dem's and moderate GOP much more often that with the fringe. Sometimes making the right political choice is more about what the nation truly needs, than what we'd personally like to see happen. | | | | | | |

| | Excellent discussion, Jessica. I will be checking back with great interest on what everyone has to say. At this moment I am just very thankful that today is not election day.... I have a lot of indecision. I do know who I would not ever vote for but since that is not the direction you were going with this I will hold off on that opinion for now. | | | | | | |

| | I am definitely planning to TRY to vote, but I seriously doubt George Bush will allow the elections next year. He has recently granted himself dictatorial power and cut out the other two branches of government. Check this on the White House web site: http://www.whitehouse.gov... | | | | | | |

| | Catastrophic Emergency" means any incident, regardless of location, that results in extraordinary levels of mass casualties, damage, or disruption severely affecting the U.S. population, infrastructure, environment, economy, or government functions; nothing short of a nuclear war would enable this. | | | |

| | e) "Enduring Constitutional Government," or "ECG," means a cooperative effort among the executive, legislative, and judicial branches of the Federal Government, coordinated by the President, as a matter of comity with respect to the legislative and judicial branches and with proper respect for the constitutional separation of powers among the branches As we see plainly here, the other 2 branches would not be eliminated in such an event | | | |

| | I have not missed an election sense I became old enough to vote. As for who I am going to vote for. Well right now I am thinking good old Rudy. He has a sold economic past. Look what he did for New York. He really turned that city around. The crime rate dropped, the local economy really rose. But like a lot of American's I am fed up with both sides right now. Neither is getting things done.We traded one do nothing congress for another one. Voting in the dems made no difference. And neither side has all the right answers. Until both sides learn how to work together I do not see things getting better no matter who we vote in. You can not pass laws if you can not get congress and senate to work together and get things done. The president can not do it all himself. | | | | | | |

| | I'm a citizen of the US and as the first responder said, I too have voted in every election since turning 18. If the election were held today, I'd have to go with Hillary. After all she did a great job during the other 8 years she was in the White House ;). I think we are more than 'ready' for a woman in the White House, she probably wouldn't have been my first choice for the first- but she's good enough and far better than most of the other options. Since it's not taking place today, I intend to keep an open mind & to continue to try to learn more about Obama. I couldn't say I'd vote for him if it were today, but he definitely seems to have great potential. I'd just want some verification that he has the ability to carry through with his potential. And a Clinton with VP Obama ticket (or the reverse for that matter) would most definitely have my vote. | | | | | | |
