I prefer the plastic toys. I think they look much cuter and they are just as durable if you get a good brand. My daughter has wooden blocks but everything else is plastic. Which do you prefer?

I like the plastic toys becasue they are alot easier to wash when you get wood wet it tends to ruin it. I like to use disinfectant on the toys and it just seeps into the wood toys the plastic ones you just spray and let dry.

My kids prefer the plastic. I think they're a slight bit safer as well. you know how kids like put things in their mouth, I'm always afraid they'll bite down too hard on wood and hurt themselves. There's just no stopping them.

I like the plastic toys also. Like the Little Tikes brand. A nice sturdy plastic. The colors are always nice and bright, kid friendly. They are easy to wash and dry quickly.

They make really nice outdoor toys. Lots of different play houses and climbing structures for the kids. I have several of them in my play yard.

Little Tikes is my favorite brand too. My daughter has several of their toys. The only thing I dont like about them is sometimes the plastic starts getting jagged and sharp around the seams and comes off when you pull on it.

I would be one who would favor the wooden toys. Blocks of course are a good starting place. I have worked in environments where there were both. The thing about wood is that it can be repaired when damaged, finished in any color, or left plain. It is heavier and more solid. Left in its wooden shades it allows more imagination. It is a renewable resource as well. I have been fortunate to know people who could craft wooden toys. To me they are more unique.

When my children were young I was always a bit worried about the wooden toys for a couple of reasons. I was fearful that if they were the painted variety, the paint might not be lead free. Secondly I was worried that with time and lots of play the edges might become damaged and splinter. Lastly, when wood gets dents/cracks...those are excellent areas for the growth of bacteria...and we all know that kids put toys in their mouths! Wet wood just seemed like a great medium for bacterial growth to me! Like you stated, my kids did have wooden blocks...but that was it. Both plastic and wood toys can be wiped down with clorox water but the plastic just seems cleaner and safer to me!
p.s. Your daughter is ADORABLE!!! A great picture!

I like a pretty even mixture. Wood toys tend to be more expensive and harder to find, but also tend to be more educational than plastic toys - I love our wood blocks, wood instruments, etc. Plastic is certainly easy to find and is*sometimes* of good quality - I love most anything by Little Tikes (which also tends toward 'creative play' toys). Fisher-Price's Little People are great too, but for the most part, their noisy toys drive me nuts - they leave so little room for a child to be creative.

well i think plastic toys are prolly more germ free...its like a discussion on cutting boards, which is easier to clean, which one doesnt hang on to germs as easily, its a grey area...i guess i prefer plastic because they can be dis-infected much more easier...

I prefer plastic toys because they last longer than wooden toys. They are also easier to be cleaned and have brighter colour than wooden toys.

I actually like wood toys. I like the classic-ness to them, and I like the idea that if she loses a toy outside, its wood, so no polution. I found a line of toys and other plastic product that are made from recycled plastic, and they're made to be biodegradable, but they're pricy, so I sent the wish list to the grandparents!LOL

But we do indeed have lots of plastic toys, wood ones are hard to come by, I just would prefer wood.

Oh this has been a conflict for me for quite some time. With my kids and now my grandkids I have tried both. I soon learned to be really careful with wood toys. Kids tend to like to toss or throw toys-bang right in the head! Plastic seems to hurt less. I even bought some metal cars to keep here when my grand sons visit. Since they are all under 6 they thought it would be fun to sling then across the room. Needless to say the toys were put away. Think I'll stick with plastic until the kids can control their urges better.
