Do you think it is a good idea? |
|
The summer vacation started. Most of the time, my husband will take my daughter to the beach in the afternoon. So she won’t have any things to do in the morning except watch TV or play games. So I am going to give daughter some homework to do that will not be more than 2 hours. Do you think it is a wise choice?

Madona1 (1242) | 3 years ago | My daughter will be 9 years old next month. She is happy to do the homework but not everyday. So you could be right, it is better not to insist her if she doesn't want it. Thanks for sharing your view.

2. daycarepal (1111) | 3 years ago | How old is your daughter? My son is 16 and I know if I gave him 2 hours worth (or any amount) of homework each day, he would probably run away LOL.
I think it's nice that you want to give her something educational to do. Have you talked to her about it? Depending on her age, you could go shopping with her for a book and maybe each morning she can sit and read for awhile.

Madona1 (1242) | 3 years ago | My daughter love reading. But the homework I give her is practice piano and the CD of Science or Maths. Once a week, she has to write a story about the party she has taken part in or the place she has visited or something is really interesting.

3. MOLTON1296 (232) | 3 years ago | How old is she? How much will you require she do? I mean if she doesnt get it done, will she be able to go to the beach with dad still? My daughter is 7 and going into the 3rd grad and LOVES school! She has all kinds of work books and since activities and I print off stuff here at work for her to do as she pleases. She loves to read too, and most of the time she choses that over TV. Or if she watches tv, have her watch DiscoveryKids or the DIscovery channel, or we have National Geographic on demand...both regular NG and KidsNationalGeographic. She chooses those alot too. Learning while being entertained.

Madona1 (1242) | 3 years ago | I did have a conversation with my will be 9-years-old girl before providing the list of homework. She is quite happy with it and suggests me to give her 2 Pounds every weekend as a reward or treat if she finishes her homework. If she didn’t finish the work that week, she would not get that 2 pounds but still can go to the beach or have fun every afternoon.

5. tholitz (895) | 3 years ago | It is indeed a wise choice to make her updated with what she had learned and at the same time to prepare her for the next school year. But this is also the time that children are waiting to just get out of school activities and really have some fun. So I think you should be creative to give her something different from school which she would enjoy to do and at the same time she would learned something from it.

6. sojournseeker (1032) | 3 years ago | Ok she is nine and you would rather she do something constructive instead of vegetabilizing in front of the television. What sports or artistic interests does she like to participate in? If she loves outdoors, get her with a bunch of kids her age who like to camp, hike, fish or sit in front of a bonfire roasting marshmallows and telling ghost stories? She likes homework but yeah it is her vacation from school but not knowledge so have her read a new fiction or non-fiction book every week till summer is over and at the end, have her write an essay on the best she read this summer.

Madona1 (1242) | 3 years ago | There is always a summer sports organized by the local government. It is free and quite entertaining. My girl used to take part in this event when she was 7. Maybe it is too hot here during the day, she doesn’t want to go anymore. So throughout the summer, we mainly take her to the beach to play with her friends there.

7. ljegbers (5761) | 3 years ago | Absolutely! Keeping her fresh and mind in gear is a wonderful idea. I home school our middle son and our lessons run year around. We take a lighter load in the summer, but he enjoys it. He's 14 so I give him the freedom to take responsibltiy for his summer and then we hit it hard again August through June.

8. Gemmygirl1 (2628) | 3 years ago | Absolutely NOT. What's the point in children having time away from school if you are just gonna make them do homework during their away from school time? If your daughter wants to do nothing much during the morning, knowing she'll be having an active afternoon at the beach with her Dad, then you should let her do it - that's what school holidays are for, for kids to be kids, do their own thing & not have to worry about studying or doing homework. I think by making her do homework, you're trying to stop her from being a kid - wanting her to do nothing other than play or relax will only back-fire coz kids need to be kids. Just let her do what she wants while she's on holiday - let her watch TV - she'll be active later anyway & if she doesn't play games during the school terms, then there's nothing wrong with her playing them on her free time!

Gemmygirl1 (2628) | 3 years ago | I seem to be the opposite to everyone else:) Never mind, i have just always though the Summer time was a time to relax & do not much since it's usually too hot to do things. Maybe try getting her interested in something like scrapbooking - it might not be as active but it'll keep her busy without her actually feeling like she's at school again coz it's a learning thing but also a fun thing at the same time! Take her to the library maybe - if she's an avid reader:)
