the horcrux from godric gryffindor could be a sorting hat.

This is old news. We've always known that the sword and the hat came from Godric Gryffindor. And I don't think that either of those would be a horcrux, as they have always been at Hogwarts, in the office of the headmaster. Would have been difficult for Tom to get to them to make them into a horcrux, in my opinion.

I can't find the exact quote right now, but I recall JKR saying in an interview that the sorting hat is not a horcrux.

JKR has told that the sorting hat is not a horcrux. she has said that a horcrux does not attract attention to itself by singing songs in public. so it must be something else other than the sorting hat and the sword. just wait for 4 more days.

I absolutely do not think that the sorting hat is a horcrux for the following reasons:

1) The Sorting Hat has always been in the room of the headmaster of the college and has never been out.

2) For creating a horcrux someone needs to be killed and the horcrux made at that moment, there has been only one murder at Hogwarts and that led to the formation of the Riddle diary.

3) Had the hat been a horcrux, it would not have escaped Dumbledore's eyes.

4) Also with the hat in Dumbledore's cabin, Voldemort would have known each and every of Dumbledore's movement!!

For all these reasons, it cannot be the sorting hat.
