When do you start thinking about Christmas? |
|
I noticed a couple of discussions about Christmas ornaments and to be honest with you I'm not ready to even think about it yet! I'm trying to enjoy my summer and the thoughts of the money I'll spend and the family obligations of the holiday stress me out and right now I don't need that going on in my mind. When do you start thinking about all the "trappings" of the Christmas holidays? I usually start shopping in September to get a good head start. When do you start your shopping or are you a last minute Christmas shopper? Doesn't it ruin your summer like it does mine to have to think about it so soon?

1. TeresaK (8081) | 3 years ago | I start my shopping in July or August. Right now, I know what I'm getting for my children, but haven't bought it yet. I still don't have a clue what I'm getting the rest of my family members, so they'll be tougher to buy for this year. I am always done with my shopping by Thanksgiving. That way I can devote the entire month of December to the real meaning of Christmas, and to spending time with family and friends.

| hamdog510 (2) | 3 years ago | I don't really choose a time to start my shopping. Throughout the year if I see items that are good for a particular family member or friend, I just pick it up then and save it until the holidays. This makes the months approaching Christman much less stressful.

2. verdurilla (3023) | 3 years ago | well, when i was younger i´d often started to think in Christmas, around the first days of November. Actually i think that i have lost my Christmas's spirit. For me these days are like any other days of the year...

3. maddysmommy (10990) | 3 years ago | Christmas is the last thing on my mind at the moment. My son turns 5 at the end of this month, both my inlaws birthdays are in early August, my sister in laws x2 birthdays are in late August and early September, my mother is turning 60 on Sept 10th and I don't have a clue what I am going to do for all of them except my son and my mom. Christmas will just have to wait!

4. hip2bemom (2358) | 3 years ago | I am trying to save up money for Christmas but I am not buying any presents yet. I know Hallmark starts putting their ornaments up early to buy and some people have all their Christmas shopping done by the end of September! I usually wait until after Thanksgiving to worry about Chritmas presents. I always have Thanksgiving dinner at my house so I have to think about that first.

ctrymuziklvr (4677) | 3 years ago | It does make it tough when you have to think of a house full of people for Thanksgiving dinner. I do the same thing and try to put up some Christmas decorations for everyone to enjoy at the same time.

5. vicki2876 (3258) | 3 years ago | Well my daughter's birthday is September 7 and there is back to school and car insurance renewal on September 5th so Christmas is that last thing on my mind. I used to do the chirstmas shopping right after back to school but I noticed that the kids were seeing all this cool stuff later in the year and wanted that instead so I wait till Novemeber to get stuff. After that its too bad you get what you get. Trying to keep up with what they asked Santa for is pretty hard cause I hate going into busy stores and hate last minute shopping. LOL Vicki

ctrymuziklvr (4677) | 3 years ago | I remember how tough it was with kids and your right it seems like all the good toys come out closer to Christmas. When you have so much going on months before it's hard to think about buying gifts for everyone.

6. Meljep (1345) | 3 years ago | Hallmark has their ornament premier in July. It really seems too early to think about Christmas when you are in the middle of Summer vacation. Your need to think about Christmas may depend on how far ahead you need to start buying gifts in order to not overload the budget in December.

7. golfproo (1614) | 3 years ago | Hi,
I do not really start thinking about Christmas until after the American Thanksgiving. After that holiday I begin to decorate the house and do all those usual things. In terms of my actual shopping...I tend to do that on Christmas Eve almost every single year. I am not sure why I put myself throught that...but I do.:)
cheers,

ctrymuziklvr (4677) | 3 years ago | I've always wanted to do some shopping for the next Christmas on Christmas eve but I'm usually broke by then. That's the night I have my son over for dinner so it wouldn't work out anyway.

| 8. cheezcake (42) | 3 years ago | They say here in the Philippines is the longest christmas season. Count down starts when September comes in..the so-called "-ber" months..from Sept to Dec. And get this: these count downs are aired in local TV programs every now and then. So i guess we kinda officially start thinking about it by september.

ctrymuziklvr (4677) | 3 years ago | My goodness! That is very early and I think it would ruin the whole thing for me. I'm sure if your from the Philippines your used to it though.

|
|
| cheezcake (42) | 3 years ago | Count down starts from September to December. But i didn't say the longest season for nothing? Sometimes it even lasts until february!!! or until you can still feel the cold in the air. chinese new year is also in february.

9. Amstardam (703) | 3 years ago | I don't really think about Christmas until right before. I get tired of all the hype about it. People focus way too much on the material side of Christmas. It has become too much on giving huge expensive gifts instead of spending time with family and enjoying each others company. I spent Christmas in a country that doesn't celebrate it one year and it was amazing. They had a few lights up but only for New Years since that is their biggest holiday. It was so fun to enjoy the holiday without all the extra junk around.

ctrymuziklvr (4677) | 3 years ago | That sounds like a relaxing way to spend Christmas and I could definitely deal with that. Smart country I would say.

10. beyonce03 (1871) | 3 years ago | I kinda start thinking about Christams in august because I always srated saving money for gift during that time. But I really think of it in october-november when I start buying some gift and making my own list.

|
ctrymuziklvr (4677) | 3 years ago | I do a lot of my shopping online and use the money I make from a lot of my money making sites to pay for it so I'm not really stuck having to save. As for lists I seldom make them I'm usually too busy reading everyone else's.
