I am considering applying for US citizenship, but Germany will only allow me to have dual citizenship (keep German citizenship and aquire US citzienship) if I can prove that there are specific tax or inheritance-related disadvantages being a lawful permanent resident vs. being a citizen. I will need specific examples, backed up by the appropriate IRS code. I am not interested in generic differences, such as not being able to vote or hold federal jobs, I am only interested in inheritance or tax ramificiations. Don't know if this helps, but my husband is about 9 years older than I am and will presumably die before I will. He also has life insurance that I am the beneficiary of. Over the next two decades, we will inherit property and money from both sides of the family in both the US and Germany. Thanks for your help. | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | |
