Buying Polos. I am frustrated. Any recommendations? | | | | I feel like I am always buying polos to replace the worn polos my boyfriend wears. I am usually disappointed in the quality, and it rarely seems to matter how little or how much I spend. The stitching often wears out. In some cases, I can sew the shirts back together, but in other cases, once the seam rips, the rip seems to keep going and then the fabric is ripped as well, making the shirt impossible to fix. I also get tired of the fading, and the collars that change colors so they no longer match the shirts. I can't send him to work in a shirt that looks like it is 20 years old (even though it might only be a couple of months old)! The only brand that seems to last is Eddie Bauer. I was extremely disappointed in the Lands End polos - they made it through about 6 washings (cold water, gentle cycle) before the stitching on the cuff or under the arm wore out. I have a really hard time spending $30 a shirt (sometimes more) when the shirt doesn't even last a couple of months. I watch for Eddie Bauer sales, and I frequently check eddiebaueroutlet.com. I recently purchased three Sonoma brand polos from Kohl's for $10-15, and I am hoping they are going to last. What is your experience with buying polos? Do you have any tried and true brand recommendations? How much do you typically spend per shirt? Do you find that the interlock polos last longer than the pique polos, or vice versa? | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | |

| | Hello Hmmmmm, Hubby & I share your disappointment with many name brand polo's. Of course, I should preface by saying that Hubby is hard on clothing. He catches the cloth on things and tears them on a regular basis. It's just a reality in his work environment. We've tried many brands over the years, and none seem to wear well, for more than a few months. This past May I tried a new brand, Van Heusen 100% cotton, medium weave. I bought three, and thus far they're holding up pretty well. As for the fading; I wonder if that has more to do with the kind of laundry detergent you are using. I mention this because I've never had a collar fade to the point where they no longer match the shirt. As I mentioned, our issue is with how easily the material tears. Perhaps a milder detergent, or one that protects from color fading would help alleviate the fading problem. I use "All Free & Clear" detergent, "Oxyclean" to get out the tough soil, and a couple of drops of tea-tree oil to sanitize. Oh, and I'll add that I do not put Hubby's shirts in the dryer. I have noticed that the dryer heat does seem to contribute to fading. Hope this helps. 'Cause you're right, it is annoying to have a new item of clothing look like it's a decade old. | | | | | | | Hmmmmm (1682)

| | Hello Ladyluna, Thank you, as always, for taking the time to respond. It was only the Lands End polos that faded to the point where the collars were a different color than the rest of the material. They also ripped faster than any other brand I have ever purchased. We have never had an Eddie Bauer polo rip, but I believe we have exhausted their line of colors! You are probably right about the detergent as well as the dryer. I don't use anything special (I am particular about scents, so I buy based on that rather than what they claim to offer, and apparently I need to be particular about both), and I definitely dry them on high heat. I will definitely look for the Van Heusen polos. Thank you for your recommendation! | | | | ladyluna (2495)

| | Good morning Hmmmmm, We've never purchased "Land's End", and based on your recommendation, we'll most likely keep it that way. Thanks for the info. Oh, and just a side-note about the "All Free & Clear" detergent: it is free of dyes and perfumes. So, it has no scent at all. I don't know it that helps, but I thought I would share anyway. Good luck with the Van Heusen's. | | | | | | | OEM Fishing Tackle Mfg For wholesales/OEM: lures/rods/reels/accessories http://www.profish3.com.cn | add comment | | | |
