Did you see the statistic that states by the year 2050, 50 percent of all youth

Where did you see those statistics & how did they come by them? It is hard to believe. I hope it is not true.
Our society would be in complete turmoil, if half our youth are in prison/ parole or probation.
I mean, that is half of our soiciety that is going to produce children...
I have no solution to this.

Prisons are already bursting at the seams, especially here in the UK, so where are they going to house them all? We can't build more prisons we haven't got the money. What we need is STRONGER deterrants, to stop people landing in prison in the first place, or better still bring back the death penalty for serious offenders, rapists and terrorists, if we do that then we save billions by housing them in the first place! Simple economics. Do you know how much it is to protect prisoners and keep them safe as well as housing them? The money could be used to build hospitals etc... Oh boy sorry I'm going off on one here LOL, gets off soap box!

I don't think this is realistic. How are we going to build all those new facilities to house all these young people? And how will we have a support force large enough to handle all this new business? It is extremely difficult to project events out into the future, especially 40 or 50 years from now. I won't be alive anyway.

This really does not surprise me. I can see a jump in teen crime already. I think it is a result of the decline in family time. Families are so very important and kids need to be taught things in a family not in a preschool. They need to be hugged, encouraged and loved within a family.

No, I didn't see this! What a sad testimony to the state of our society. Wasn't it Hillary Clinton's book that said, "It takes a village..." I truly believe that it is EVERYONE'S job to help raise children to be ethical, law-abiding, good people. If we see that parents are failing, we need to step in as a community rather than turn our heads the other way. We are failing the leaders of tomorrow.

I'm not a big fan of PBS. They tend to be pretty liberal and like to scare people on topics like this. I also do nto agree with Hillary Clinton. It does not take a village to raise a child. It takes TWO loving parents. Each child needs both a male and a fenale role model. I am a restaurant manager and in the last 15 years I have seen both an increase in the amount of young people from broken homes AND an increase in the amount of young people who do not think going to jail is that big a deal. Some people who have worked for me talk about jail as if it is an opportunity to go hang out with some ol;d friends for a couple of days. I don't think PBS' numbers are right, but I do see this problem getting worse, not better.

I know that by 2050 70% of population is going to be old, so if 50% out of 30 is going to be in prison, who is going to run this country? It looks like older people will have to go back to work to support all prisoners...
