Insurance companies, they STINK |
| |
| Ok, I've had it your darned if you do have insurance and you are darned if you don't have insurance. Insurance copays fro reg. doctor visits are 15.00, specialty visits are 30.00 And lord help you if you need have any testing done, because it isn't covered! the last therapist wanted to test her for autism, we couldn't afford the testing 2 parts and 125.00 a pop. Insurance covered NONE..... They say that its not medical, and if we want it done we have to pay, which could run ito thousands upon thousands of dollars, and unless you are rich you can't get the testing... Oh and by the way, we don't qualify for any government programs because we make to much....so the word is we're screwed. And hten if you get a quack, yes quack, my termonology for duckto....er doctors.....and you don't agree with him, you end up fighting with him, or battling the insurance company for a new one, and they don't want to pay the evaluation fee again, so they say second opinion is out of our pocket. Sorry had to vent on insurance companies. Mooch | | | | | |

| | I am so sorry this is happening. Do you think you could have ther tested thru the school system somehow? What about with a referral or something? Do you have to pay the evaluation prior to the service? Or will they bill you? If they bill you, you could pay them just a few dollars a month and they can't do anything to you. Gosh I don't know what else to say. I wish I could help more. | | | | | | |

| | I pulled my daughter out of public schools to homeschool her. Yes, that's how bad the school systems are in Maryland. All they want is the federal funding htey get for children like her, they don't care about her as a child or her getting an education! I've got her doing more via homeschool than she ever got in the time she was in public school As far as the extensive testing, it has to be paid up front. When my husband took an 8k paycut ater being unemployed a 2nd time, all hopes of therapy went out the window....... I've had the day from hell, and I have no better way to say it. This is the aggression that my daughter exhibits, she slugged me in the face, knocking my glasses off, in the process of trying to put her in a bear hold she very purposely stepped on my glasses trying to break them. I've had black eyes from her, my shoulder (whole back and neck) black and blue from her hitting me. And what was my 'crime' asking her to do schoolwork, that rewarded me with a slug in the face, she grabbed my mug threw it at the cat who had the smartness of mind to move the mug bounced off the couch hitting the window and breaking it, which prompted me to put her in a time out, that I didn't yell, I had to take the window off the screen, so the air is not on now(maybe that's agood thing), but its getting hot in here... so the kids or the cat wouldn't cut themselves... Now she is in the corner by the door doing schoolwork so she's being relatively good, but this isn't an isolated incident this happens almost every day. just listening is help enough. and if I were to take her for a second evaluation, they want the fees up front. | | I feel your pain. (see my reply to the latest post about your daughter) I understand about the school system too. I pulled my daughters out 4 years ago because I couldn't take it anymore. Now that my son is done with Early Intervention; I am now fighting with the school system because they want me to put him in preschool with therapies there. Well I want him to get services in home!! I wonder if there are any clinics around your area that will charge on a sliding scale. We have them here. Maybe if you call your nearest hospital; they could refer you? Or maybe they even have a clinic. Honey if you want to send me a PM please feel free. I am happy to be an ear for you. I do go thru similar with my daughter too! | | | |

| | oh that sucks! i'm sorry i had responded to one of your discussions and i was talking about the government programs just now that i stumble with this discussion sorry.. when my daughter was sick and i had to take her for several test the health insurance wont pay for it..they sad they only pays when the person was admitted in the hospital was undergone medical attention..now if she was admitted and had to take lab test that is covered..that is why i paid half the cost of her bills..mind you it cost me 300,000.00 pesos and if i dont have the insurance i would hardly pay half million pesos for it..luckily i have to pay little of the test but almost all are covered..now i;m using the health card for myself because i am sick for few days now. | | | | | | |

| | Yes, insurance companies-you've gotta love'um, oneandone. What people sometimes forget is that they are a business just like any other; and as such, they are out to make money, not give it away. Never mind the fact that you have paid all your money into the company, they will still fight you tooth and nail when it comes time for them to shell out money on your behalf. Hope you feel better. | | | | | | |

| | Sorry, the testing was not covered. I do not know if it is in your situation, but a lot of times its the contract that your employer has with these insurance companies and they are just administering the benefits your employer has in place. It sounds like you have a HMO, you might want to consider a indemnity or PPO plan they are not as strict as the HMO plans. You can also check into a health savings account that will pick up some of the services that the insurance wont pick up, also save your receipt for a possible medical deduction of the testing. Good luck. | | | | | | |

| | That's the way it goes Mooch! Sorry to hear this had to happen to you right now you really need some help with that child. Your darned for sure if you don't have any insurance and then you got to be able to pay at least your first born child to afford good insurance these days! This is how the rich stay rich they raise the price to suite them. And if you can't afford it then your lost to what ever the state will give you. And that sucks big time cause you got to have a heart condition here in my state or not able to stand on your own two fee to get help from our state. Heck we were gettin almost 250 in food stamps before my husband got his disability and it is under 650 a month and they cut the food stamps in half saying we were getting too much money for disability! So I know how you feel when you say you make too much money. That's a laugh if we made half as much as those insurance companies and the doctors did we would be living high on the hog.....lol Don't blame you for venting I would be screaming at the insurance company. | | | | | | |

| | I can't stand them. And as far as possible I avoid using insurance. I'm prepared to meet the consequences of misfortune. It's what life's about and it's how we learn. Of course there are situations where you are legally obliged to get insurance such as car insurance (in the UK). | | | | | | |

| | I hear ya! I had insurance for my kids and self for a short time (a couple of years I think). It cost us almost $200 a month, yet it didn't cover getting my 10 year old son tested for autism. It cost my husband an I an arm and a leg for 4 hours of the doctors time, as well as wasting our time as we already knew our son was autistic. We just wanted the papers for proof. I feel fortunate that my kids are now on the Healthy Families program. My husband and I pay $12 a month per child (we have 2) and it covers medical, dental, and vision (so long as we don't go out of network). Of course we don't use it as often as we should, but it is nice to have 'just in case' of an emergency. | | | | | | |

| | I agree- I’m lucky enough to not have to fight with them- not yet anyways- knock on wood- You take a rough situation already with caring for a special needs child- and then to get the help you need- you have to pay out-of-pocket. How fair is this?? It isn’t! I wish there was something I could do to help you- It breaks my heart to read your posts about your daughter and the things she and you are going through. | | | | | | |
