Parents not putting there children in car seats why? |
|
Even though it is the law in Nebraska to put your child in a car or booster seat until the age of 6 I still see alot of children not being put in them some parents don't even put seat belts on there children. I have even seen some parents drive while holding there child. It just makes me cringe to think what would happen to that child if they were in an accident. I always strap my 4 year old into a booster seat and my 11 year old wears his seat belt even if we are only going around the block. It only takes a minute to strap your child and to help save there life. I know just becasue they are in a car seat does not mean they are 100 percent protected but they sure help. Do you alway strap your child in to there seat or put a seat belt on them before you pull off?

1. smartmom (540) | 3 years ago | I am really a safety freak, and I refuse to drive with anyone (ene adults), who do not put their seatsbelt on. My husband thinks I am a bit silly, but that is just the way I am and it will not change.
I recently spent a couple of days in London with my Jamaican sister-in-laws, and I knew that they had a relaxed relationship to the seat belt thing. We did drive, and the kids (incl. my sister-in-laws) five year old son, did not have car seats. I buckled both my kids up, but I really did feel uncomfortable.
I have a car seat and a booster seat at my father's place for when we come to visit, because I cannot stand the thought of my kids not being buckled up securely.
Here in Florida, I have often seen what you see, parents who do not buckle up their kids, or young kids who do not sit in car seats, it really gives me a bad feeling to be a witness to.

3. Feona1962 (3333) | 3 years ago | I always put my grandsons in carseats. Just today the 5 year old asked why we have to use seatbelts and I told him because if Papa had to stop the van really fast, you could get seriously hurt. They always get into the carseats and I strap them in..I do see this often where the children are not in carseats, let alone seatbelts. I think it is because of lazyness on the parents part. The parent is responsible for making sure the child is secure..Some kids scream and the parents let them have their way..I could not drive my vehicle knowing that my child is not safe..

4. 4monsters4me (2011) | 3 years ago | I don't get it either. Here they have to be in a carseat until they are 4 and then in a booster until they are 8 or 80lbs. Most of the people I know wtop putting their kids in careats when they are about 5.
I have 4 kids and all 4 of them are in some kind of carseat. my oldest is 7 but only weighs 35lbs. She just recently moved into a belt positioning booster (from a 5pt harness one) a few months ago. My son is 5 1/2 but much bigger then his sister (50lbs) and has been in a booster since he was 3 1/3 and will continue to use it until he is 4'9". My middle daughter is 4 1/2 and 38lbs. She is in a booster that uses the 5pt harness still. The youngest is only 16 months and she has a convertible seat.

5. scarlet2000 (1345) | 3 years ago | It bothers me when I see people that don't put their children in car seats. Friday I was standing on the sidewalk in our small town to pay respects to a young Soldier from our town who died in Iraq. In the funeral procession for this Soldier there was a car with a small baby in a car seat in the front passenger seat. That parent had a lot of guts to do that with all of the State Trooper, Sheriff, and Police cars that were escorting this Soldier to his final resting place. I just don't know what to think about people that do things like that. I always put my five year old in her booster seat. If she buckles herself in I double check it to make sure it's secure.

6. slarkin71 (4526) | 3 years ago | I think people that don't secure their kids safely are morons. My kids are always belted before I even start the car. What really really annoys me is seeing the parents belted, but they're letting the kids climb up and down the back seats. Morons.

8. MSV1313 (2243) | 3 years ago | I can't understand WHY some parent would not want to take the few seconds to safely strap their children in when it could save the child from a LIFETIME of pain or death itself. No matter how good someone thinks they are at driving, we cannot control other drivers and accidents DO happen. Those few seconds you take to secure your kids could make all the difference in the world. I always strap my daughter into her car seat and you can be sure I will do the same with my son when he arrives. I had a really nasty car accident over a decade ago. I felt my body being hurled forward, and the only thing that kept me from going through the windshield and out of the car was my seatbelt. The accident was BAD, I broke some bones and got cut up, but otherwise was fine, and I KNOW it is because I had my seatbelt on. Buckling up is the first thing I do when I get into ANY car. You know what I saw one day that was like the trifecta of parentla carelessness? A man in a late model car (meaning it had airbags) had his little boy sitting unrestrained in the front seat (kids under 12 are required to be in the back seat in my state because the airbag can KILL a child if deployed) the boy couldn't have been more than seven years old. While this idiot parent had the kid already in a dangerous position being in the front seat of an airbag equipped vehicle and NOT wearing a seatbelt, he was also yammering away on a handheld cell phone (also illegal to do while driving here)! I saw this car swerve into and out of oncoming traffic because the driver wasn't paying any attention at all - hell maybe he was DRUNK too!

9. Sacrificialclam (4467) | 3 years ago | Parents who either won't put their kids in car seats or who won't MAKE them stay in there deserve something a lot greater than a fine or some community service. Spank the kid to make it stay in the seat. Pointing to a cop and telling your kid that the cop is going to arrest him and he'll never see mommy again will only scare kids away from cops in the event that the kid is ever in a real emergency.

MSV1313 (2243) | 3 years ago | I freaking HATE when I see parents pointing to cops and telling their kids if they don't do this or that the cop will arrest them! You're right, itonly makes kids fear and resent police officers which further contributes to the decay of society. My kid goes in her car seat and gets strapped in - no ifs ands or buts - it is a fact of life and she knows it.

Sacrificialclam (4467) | 3 years ago | My dad and brother are both policemen. It angers me and them to no end. If it was legal to arrest the mother, and then tell the kid "this is what happens when you lie to your kids" I know my brother would do it.
Same thing with firemen. Telling your kid that the fireman will come burn down your home if you don't do something is no way to get them acclimated to them.
My niece was at the babysitter's house and her kitchen caught fire. Lucky for my niece and the other few kids at the sitter's, they were all fine. The sitter got a cut on her arm from something and for a good long while my niece was terrified of firemen. The flames in the kitchen really freaked her out and the firemen yelling and dragging hoses and stuff inside didn't help. To a 3 year old, firemen do look scary.
So about a month after the incident, I took her to the local firehouse and introduced her to the firemen there and let her play on one of the trucks and in the ambulance. She was petrified at first and screamed when one of them put on their turnouts (coat/pants/helmet) but I told her firemen were there to help and they are good people. By the time she left, she had a little plastic fireman coat and a plastic badge and told everyone she wanted to be a fireman.

MSV1313 (2243) | 3 years ago | I'm glad you helped her get over her fear, firemen and cops save lives everyday adn for children to be made afraid of them puts them in danger. I never heard of someone telling their kids that firemen would burn down their house, whoever does such a thing should be shot! I have seen people do the thing with cops and evewn security guards at the mall and I think they ought to be charged with obstructing justice for raising future potential cop killers.

10. KrisNY (7347) | 3 years ago | My daughter is 10 and I make her wear a seat belt- no matter where we are going- I have always made her- and she was in the car seat and booster seat until she was the weight limit- I think it is crazy to not follow these rules- they are for the safety of the children. Why not take the time- I also used to go to the car seat safety check points -- this was where they checked the car seat to be sure I had it in correctly- Like 1 time a month-
