Do you take diuretics? |
| |
| Do you take diuretics? Why do you take them? Did a doctor suggest that you take them, or did you decide to take them on your own? Which one do you take? What symptoms do you have that made you decide you needed to take them? Do they help you? How? | | | | | |

| | I take Dyazide, which is a prescription diuretic. The reason I have to take it is because I have Meniere's Disease, which is caused by a fluid imbalance in the ears, and causes vertigo, Hearing Loss a feeling of fullness in the ear, and many other symptoms. My ear-nose-throat doctor gives Dyazide to all of his Meniere's patients, because it can help with build-up of fluid in the ears. I'm not sure if it helps with my ears, but I noticed that when I don't take it, I feel bloated. | | | | | | |

| | May I ask which blood pressure medication you take? You don't have to answer. Do you know why a blood pressure medication would contain a diuretic? How does releasing excess water help control your blood pressure? I am curious! | | | |

| | I have had a bad problem with swelling in my legs and feet since I was in my early teens. At that time the doctors told me it was probably something kidney related, but I wasn't put on any type of medication or anything. They just told me watch my salt intake, and get regular checkups. I have done this over the years, but the swelling has continued. A few years ago the swelling got so bad that it was painful to walk. That is when the doctor decided to put me on a diuretic. I take a prescription called hydrochlorothiazide every day, and although it may help a little, the swelling still causes me a lot of pain much of the time. One important thing to remember if you are taking diuretics is to always make sure that you are getting enough potassium though because if you don't, they will deplete the potassium from your system giving you terrible cramps and maybe worse. | | | | | | |

| | So you never got an official diagnosis as far as what causes your terrible swelling? Do you take potassium supplements to combat the loss of potassium? | | | |

| | I take OTC diuretics once in a while. About once a month to be exact. TMI, sorry, but I just feel so bloated like my belly is going to pop for about 2 days. So I take a few Diurex for those two days and it makes me feel normal. | | | | | | |

| | It wasn't TMI for me, as I know the feeling. However, my problem seems to be more in my ankles and feet than where you describe. The other night it was to the point where I thought the skin on my feet was going to stretch beyond its capacity and just tear right off. | | | |

| | Owwww, well that sucks! Sounds like something more serious than just some time of the month or too much salt. My dad used to get that when he was really sick and the docs would put him on mega diuretics that made him pee his brains out. | | | |

| | Uh huh. I finally went to the doctor today and they took blood and gave me a script for a diuretic (actually, the same one that Kelly60, above, is taking). We will see! | | | |
