Megadeth, successful?

in some ways yes he did get what he wanted, but in the past years of being in megadeth he seems to still living in the shadows of metallica.

It depends on your point of view. If we similitude the commercial succes then there's no comparision. But if we look at the music then I think Megadeth reached even more then Metallica!!! Look how many CDs recorded Dave and Megadeth and how many Metallica did? And the most important Megadeth is still into thrash metal so Dave is loyal his roots and what is Metallica playing now? Just answer for yourselves!

Personally, I actually prefer Megadeth. They're a much more technical band than Metallica, IMO.
Dave Mustaine just seems to have the ability to churn out amazing riff after amazing riff.
It's been said that an average Megadeth song has more killer riffs on it than some bands' entire albums.
And Dave's always managed to recruit fantastic drummers and guitarists. Much like Ozzy is always able to pick out a kickass guitar shredder.

Dave, in the first place wanted to be with Metallica. That's why he was so angry when he got kicked out.

Dave is the reason why Metallica succeed, because he got kicked out.

He is also the reason why Megadeth has succeed and failed. He is the only reason why Megadeth has so many different line-ups.

He may be talented as a guitarist, but man! He's has a dysfunctional personality.

He should understand that it is not all about RocknRoll and surpassing Metallica.

I believe that Megadeath is better than Metallica now because Metallica's songs just aren't the same. I feel more drawn to Megadeath's songs and they put me in a different place when I need to be.

Well Metallica is definitely the more "successful" band if you look at sales and just overall widespread fame. I don't know a single person who hasn't heard "Enter Sandman" or "Unforgiven." Well my grandparents might not have, but they still have heard of the band, even if they only have a vague idea of who they are. Megadeth, on the other hand, while still hugely popular, from what I can tell, seem slightly less well known.

Still though, regardless of who has had more album sales or more radio play, both bands have been so wildly successful that it's really a trivial matter. I think that while Dave Mustaine obviously (if you look at his interview in Some Kind of Monster) thinks that Metallica has had more success and has resented them somewhat for it, for the most part, in the heavy metal crowd, fans tend to think of Megadeth (well, Dave, really, the line-up has changed so much) as a band with a lot more integrity than Metallica (even though Megadeth too, has evolved a bit and changed their sound as well), so I think that worked out in their favor.

Personally, I do like Metallica just a bit more, even if they don't really sound much at all like they used to, but I also absolutely love Megadeth, and I'm glad Dave was kicked out of Metallica, or else we'd only have 1 great band instead of 2.

The answer is YES he got his wish!Megadeth has long time ago proved they were a lot better than Metallica in all the ways.With albums like Rust in peace/so far so good to the amazing RISK/Cryptic writings to the latest United Abominations, Megadeth for me has won.Metallica's last album is the worst abum i've ever listened to..a shame in fact coz i used to admire kirk's solos, but where are they?how can metallica produce an album with no solo?this is simply disgusting man

Even though I listen way more Megadeth than Metallica, I guess Dave didn't really pull it off. Not in terms of commercial success anyway. The song writing on the old Metallica albums is quite stellar, where as the old Megadeth albums have a much more chaotic sound going on. So even though I might prefer the chaotic nature of old Megadeth, I still don't think there is any question which band has written the best songs.

As for today, I can't really tell which band has kept their dignity. What I can say is that Megadeth's efforts from "Cryptic Writings" and onwards are far worse than what Metallica did up until "St.Anger". Of course, that is my subjective opinion.

That being said, there is no doubt which band had the most amazing guitar playing going on in terms of technical abilities. Megadeth!

Well, i like Metallica (old Metallica) and Megadeth! They were sucessful but it's impossible to be more sucessful than Metallica.
The album Rust in Peace it's amazing!

at this point of time it seems megadeth is doing better than metallica. Metallica got lazy and havent produced any decent albums lately
