| | You make a good point, cher913, especially about the names. Still, I wonder how much time will have to pass before anyone remembers. | | | |

| | Some countries have laws where you can not name your kids the name of a famous killer or person. If I am not mistaken Germany does not allow parents to name their kids Adolf Someone correct me if I am wrong or not, but I seem to remember hearing that somewhere....and it maybe be for a good reason, but who knows, I'm sure someone will challenge it. | | I'm not sure if that mustache gonna be popular again. I know lately the "recycle" tradition become so popular, not only paper, plastic, can, also clothing ( the trend seem rotate again ), songs, movies. But that mustache???? maybe that big 80's hair style has more chance to come around...LOL | | | | | | |
Transdisc (18434)
|
| | Yes, ibuemma, it does seem that old styles often become a 'new' trend many years after hey have died away. I think that you are correct in your prediction that the big 80's hair style has a better chance of being resurrected than does the Hitler mustache. | | | |

| | Hi Trans- I doubt that style of mustache will ever be popular again. At least I hope not. It would be difficult to look at someone with a mustache like that and not think of Hitler. Remember the Seinfeld episode when Elaine's boss Mr. Pitt accidentally had a Hitler mustache painted on him by the leaky ink pen and he went to a meeting. At the end of the meeting he made the "Hail Hitler" gesture? **laughs** | | | | | | |

| | I presume men wear a mo because they think it flatters them. I hardly think a Hitler mo could flatter anyone. In fact, I would think the opposite would apply. The only place I might expect to see one would be on a wanted poster for a serial rapist or murderer - someone with a twisted mind. (If someone posts a photo of themselves with a Hitler mo I might have to change my mind) Alongside the Hitler mo I'd have to place the old handlebar one. Surely only the most egotistical person out would wear one of those! | | | | | | |
Transdisc (18434)
|

| | I have seen several handlebar mustaches in the last couple of years, cloudwatcher. I hadn't really thought of the men sporting them as being egotistical, but I have considered them to be confident and a bit playful, as well as incredibly patient. | | | |

| | Excellent points about playfulness and patience TD! I regularly see 'handlebars' where I live, as it's kind of a cowboy thing. A short drive up north each year is the annual "Cowboy Poets Festival". Many attendants sport a well-waxed set of handlebars. And, I will say that there seems to be no shortage of confidence or playfulness. | | | |

| | Hello Transdisc, I'm pretty sure that that style of mustache would not look good on me, or other women for that matter. Joking aside -- there really isn't that much variation to men's fashion today. So, a return of that style, as a trend isn't very likely. Or, at least I don't think it is. Think about it: concurrently, contemporary men wear long and short hair, wide and narrow ties, black and brown shoes, and when a hat is worn in today's world, there really are no hard & fast rules. Not like the days when the Derby was all the rage, or the Tophat. Of course, the beer-guzzling hat hasn't made the cover of "GQ" yet, so the jury is still out on that one. Some military men still wear a narrow/fat mustache. Their mustaches cannot impede the ability of a gas mask to perform accordingly. Some might say that their mustaches are reminescent of Hitler's. Yet, stylish is not an adjective that comes to my mind. Rather, my first thought at seeing that type of mustache is: Why doesn't that guy knock that caterpillar off his lip? | | | | | | |
Katesmama (3210)

| | I don't think that I have ever actually seen someone with a Hitler style mustache, ladyluna. I mean, in my lifetime. However, I have seen several handlebar mustaches, and these went out of fashion quite some time ago. Perhaps in another one hundred years or so, there will be a resurgance of the type of mustache that Hitler favored. Who knows? | | | |
ladyluna (2495)

| | Hello Katesmama, Of course you're right, silly me. The caterpillar must be a beloved pet. I just missed the trend where folks carry their beloved pets around on their upper lip. Kind of like the folks who carry their parrot around on their shoulder. Oh wait, those were pirates, and other than that one celebrated holiday each September, "Talk Like A Pirate Day" (9/20 I think), that trend has also gone by the wayside. Too funny, Katesmama! | | | |

| | Hey TD, I'm reminded of the early 80s, when Hubby came home from his military service. I kid you not ... he was sporting a hitlarian caterpillar. Not for any fashion reasons or 'statement', but rather because he has kind of a large space between his upper lip and his nose. So, in order to be compliant with military rules about the width of a mustache, his stache ended up looking like a short caterpillar. Once home, he immediately abandoned shaving all-together, and instead donned a full Grizzly Adam's. That was many years ago, and today he still wears a stache (no beard), but it is a more reasonable width. He no longer worries about using a gas mask. But, if it overgrows it is definitely reminiscent of his caterpillar days -- just a bigger caterpillar. So, depending on the size of the stache, and how full the growth habit is, it's not really all that uncommon for active military men to have a hitlarian style stache. | | | |

| | I find the idea that U.S. military men may sport a Hitleresque mustache kinda' funny, ladyluna, but I do see the reasoning that makes it so. I am very excited to learn about 'Talk Like a Pirate' Day. I do hope that I will be aware of it when it comes around, but then again, I suppose that I could commemorate it any day, eh? :) | | | |

| | Morning Transdisc, "Talk Like A Pirate Day" is a real holiday. It began receiving USA calendar notation about four years back. As I mentioned, I'm pretty sure that it's celebrated on 9/20. A co-worker and I really get into it -- for the fun of it. We practice our "aaarrrggg's", and "matey's" pronunciation fervently on that day. Of course, neither of us has taken it so far as to dress up like pirates. It's a hoot, to break up an otherwise long month, with only the Labor Day Holiday at the very beginning of the month. Run an internet search for "Talk Like A Pirate Day", and you'll see what I mean. | | | |

| | I don't know why we can lead the charge to bring it back right now. Isn't Tom Cruise making that movie about the assination attempt on hilter from within his own ranks? Maybe it will be a trend faster than we can all think. (Collective think I hope, some of us don't think that fast) As for me, I'm heading off the my waxer right now, so that I may be the first of my friends to have the Hitler brazilian. Now, do you think the look short be far north of or closer to my Berlin Divide? | | | | | | |

| | Man, I'd be really greatful if that mustache won't appear again. I would be scared if someone wears that again, that would make me run and scream!LoL Maybe it's because it has a nasty history, not Nazy history though!;) Maybe if that was worn by someone that have a good background like Churchill or Sinatra, then I think that would look nice to all of us!LoL | | | | | | |

| | Yes, it's a shame that a hair style, or should I say, lip hair style, is tainted by the character (or lack thereof) of a man to the point that the style itself is considered in bad taste, or even evil, raijin. | | | |
