Fixing a Door Frame  email this discussion to a friend?

myLot reputation of 95/100. breepeace (2268)   ranked 11 out of 18 in home improvement 5 years ago

As I mentioned in a discussion I started yesterday, 2 years ago my ex broke into my house through the interior door to the upstairs (I think my roommate probably let him in the back exterior door), took a crowbar to it and managed to get the door open, but completely cracked the frame. There's no damage on the wall, just the wooden frame, so I'm wondering since I'm going to need to fix this myself (there's no way I can afford a carpenter!) is it best to just replace the wood frame or is there some sort of spackle or fill that I can use to just fill in the dent so that there's no great big dent by the door hinge?

Thanks!
