do u carry polythene bag or use cloth bag when you shop to save environment?  

I always take 4 purple cloth bags and my purple trolly to the supermarket, so I am doing my little bit for the environment.

often,I use the polythene bag though I konw it is harmfull to the environment.It is more convenience to bring things .But I used paper bag when I take food,I think it will be more healthy and safe.Using the cloth bag is too bother.but if the seller offer it to me,I will used it.

I have four or five bags that I take along with me and put as much in them as possible. I plan to buy some more, but right now I promised myself that I cannot spend any money until after I get some money in my checking account and then it is only a couple of weeks until I get my pension and I can wait until then. Usually if we do not use the polythene bags for garbage, we take the rest back to Safeway for recycling but after a while, they deteriorate --i.e. big holes in the bottom.

I know friend but we are very much used to it and forget to carry any other bag,and we cosider that we will get the bag from the shopkeeper, so now it has become a habit to just take out the purse and go for shopping. Its wrong i know but we should admit what we do.

Long before the western world coined the terms ‘environmental hazard’ and ‘environment friendly’, India had its tradition of paper packets (tthongas, we call in Bengali). Men used to go to the market with cloth bags and the neighbouhood shop gave you the evening snacks in paper packets. Then came western influence and overnight, we switched to the user-friendly ‘poly-packs’ for everything starting from a pound of bread to fresh groceries. Now again the west is influencing us and we are creating a great hullabaloo saying that we should not used plastic, it causes environmental hazard and so on. With due respect to all my western friends, I would still like to say that influential first world countries invent and use commodities according to their convenience, dump it on poor third world nations, and then again withdraw it after much harm has been done. We are mere bystanders to this game. Its not that we don’t know that plastic is harmful, using plastic bag was never an Indian tradition, yet we adopted it just because the west did so. Now again we are discarding it just because the west says so. In the process, we are taking the daily bread away from thousand of families, who work in factories making these plastic bags. Yet, we do nothing about the potato chips packets and guthka sachets which litter our roads and footpaths. Is it because the potato chips and guthka manufacturing companies are powerful lobbies and often subsidiaries of western MNCs?

I will not carry any bag,becoz whatever we buy in the shop,the shopkeeper give us things by keeping them in a bag.Today,it is not advisable to use polythene bag as per social environmental society.But no body are following their instructions.The disadvantage of using polythene bag is,it does not help to sink the water in the mud.Without sinking of water,we cant get proper nutrition food from plant and indirectly we suffer from diseases and it cause health problems too.So,i think the govt should banned the polythene bags and helps to use other bags which doesnot harm to the environmental agenda.

I have both of them with me in the bag I normally take to office. So when I have something lightweight I use the polythene bag and when I buy something heavier or more stuff I take the cloth bag to get my shopping home.

Since here, we don't have access to the paper bags, we have no option but to use the polythene bag for all our shopping purposes and i know that it is bad for our environment but we have no option but to continue to use it with pain in the heart.

Indeed in my house everybody uses the cloth bags but for my brother, who generally uses paper bags but every now and then goes for the plastic bags too. We used to use plastic bags since 1999, but then my father made us to switch to cloth or paper bags. At that time it was beyond me to understad why but now when I do understand the cause I am more than happy to use the paper and cloth bags.
