pullups and potty training |
|
when i potty trained my daughter, i found that pullups just made our efforts futile. she would just go in the pullups because she just figured she was wearing a diaper. so it was like a step backward. so we just stayed away all together. now with my son, i am wondering if i should try them. He just doesn't like to go in the toilet. he will sit there on the toilet and try to go, but he doesn't go. after that he just ends up going on the floor. I want to try pullups but i am not sure if they will work. they are kind of pricey so i was just wondering if any one has had any success with them.

1. BuntingB (1041) | 3 years ago | They are pricey. I used them on my daughter but she really didn't like them. You should just try them one time. Just to see if they work. Everyone is different they might work for him. But my daughter didn't start using the toilet until I put her in panties. But they might work for him.

ramipalo (572) | 3 years ago | yeah, they didn't work at all with my daughter. i thought my son would like them because they have "lightning mcqueen" on them and that's his absolute favorite. but they are so expensive. Since we've been potty training him he's been just running around naked. He seems to forget that the underwear are not pampers and has an accident, so i have found letting him roam naked while we train helps. This way he knows that if he pees he's not wearing a pamper.

sedel1027 (12402) | 3 years ago | I have read that the naked way is suppose to work well. Have you put him on a potty schedule? That may help you out as well. Even if he doesn't go all the time, he will get use to having to go in the bathroom.

| barefoot_moon (3) | 3 years ago | I naked potty trained both of my kids. My youngest is currently potty training but now she wears [anties and does great. Only maybe 1-2 accidents per day. She is not even 2 1/2.
I agree pull ups are a big joke. I never liked them and refused to even buy then. It's just a glorified over priced diaper thats all.

3. espiritu (791) | 3 years ago | They didn't work for us. They never really encouraged my boys to use the toilet, if anything they hindered them.
We would use regular underwear on them and if they chose to not go to the potty and then have an accident they would feel how yucky it was. It only took a few times and then they figured it out.
Another thing we tried and the kids loved it was, we would put cheerios in the toilet so the boys could aim at them. It encouraged using the potty and it made our jobs easier. Good luck

4. zukepr (11799) | 3 years ago | I have mixed feelings about pull ups I have 5 kids! Pull ups did help start the process of potty training 4 of my kids Once they got they idea we switched to panties/underwear However my 5th kid is using them as a crutch I think. he is 7 and still has to wear one to bed. I have talked to our doctor and he says that everything is fine and there is nothing to worry about. But I am tired of buying pull ups, they are pricey! Instead of getting up in the middle of the night to go potty my son just goes in his pull up. I tried just putting him to bed in underwear but I got tired of washing linens everyday

GardenGerty (20342) | 3 years ago | Your son may just sleep too soundly to wake and go to the toilet. I have heard to give them no drinks but milk after 6pm, and I have heard never give them milk after 6 pm. I have a friend who had one son that quit having nocturnal accidents at about nine, when his tonsils and adenoids were removed. I would ask my child to help change his bed, and express confidence in him that he will get the hang of it eventually, but that pullups cost way too much to be buying for him. I would put a plastic cover under his sheets, and possibly put "chux" on top or a baby soaker pad, to help keep the bed dry.

ramipalo (572) | 3 years ago | my daughter has been toilet trained for 2 years now, and she still can't get up in the middle of the night to go. so we have had to make sure she doesn't drink after 8 and that she goes straight to the bathroom before bed.

5. ravinskye (6146) | 3 years ago | I've worked in daycare for 8 years and now i'm a stay at home mom for my 3 kids. I honestly don't know anyone who has used pull ups and them actually worked to train their kid. I've even helped train quite a few. One little girl told me "i don't have to pee in the potty i can pee in my pull up" To me they are the same as diapers except they don't hold as much pee. But, buy a pack, give them a try..he might surprise you. but if it doesn't seem to change i wouldn't keep buying them. he'll potty train when he is ready.

ramipalo (572) | 3 years ago | they were completely useless with my daughter, but i just thought since potty training boys is different maybe they'd work. but i see everyone has had the same experience i had. they are so pricey, and they don't hold as much pee. and my son has found it quite easy to strip off his pamper faster than he could pull down his pull up. so it's not so bad. he has to have me put one back on him, but usually he's just naked around training time

6. sid556 (10753) | 3 years ago | I didn't like the pullups. I used them for one day when my youngest was a toddler. I found them to be no different than diapers really. I gave them away in the end and just went the old fashioned way of training. In my opinion they are expensive and useless.
