I like the way you express it, that it does not necessarily mean or follow that friendship isn't real simply coz your friends call you by your username.

I really couldn't agree more. My friends here to whenever we are out and having some fun, they prefer calling my callsign rather than my first name. Username has no other purpose but to protect one's identity.

I've made many great friends here, and while some of those friendships have moved to other mediums (telephone and such) many of them are still online-only. That doens't mean that these people aren't very dear to me, or that I don't think of them throughout my day. Even if I think of them by their usernames rather than their names, it's the emotions and not the names that matter. =)

Most poeple just rather feel more safer protecting their identity than to be known publicly.

There must be some good reason rather than expose one's identity.

That's exactly what I have noticed, coz am using mine without hesitation that probably my identity is expose.

Well I have nothing to hide anyway, for as long as I never share online my bank accounts. Only using one that if in case hacked isn't that much.

What really harn could be done to you when your identity is exposed? To me am not hiding anything except too personal one and bank accounts, I made sure I never post them anywhere online.

How could someone hurt you on the internet other than stealing your account? Physically impossible. More riskier in real life than online.

Well anyway each has its own reasons, and mine is just exactly that.

I hope you won't mind me calling you by your first name. Honestly I find it more formal and rather more comfortable addressing people by their real name. Thanks for giving it here. Yes it's okey if we don't disclose online our complete name for some good and personal reasons, and I toally respect and subscribed to that.

So Hermie, its real nice to know your by your real name, mince is complete open as it is my real name i use as my username, but my friends though uses to call me rather with my callsign nikolai and wouldn't mind either.

So I hope by next time I could call you Hermie, as I am trying to remember all those that comes out in the open and tell me their names.

Me too, i've been using my real name for lamost 4 years now and so far didn't find any trouble using it. But i think it's good reason too protecting your identity online. Basically its security reason why others use login names or username.

In forums I prefer using my real name for same reason that i find a bit formal as i feel uncomfortable not using it.

There is nothing really special about me that i have to hide my identity heheh

Yes I do respect others that uses different username, its their prerogative, and we have to respect it.

I actually ask this question if it changes one's view regarding friendship they call if they hide their identity of prefer not to be address by their real name.

So I think it has no bearing at all to friendship here. One may call you by your username but that doesn't mean friendship isn't there.
