I am curious how many people know about this organization that's philosophy involves "advancing the economic condition, educational attainment, political influence, health, and civil rights of the Hispanic population in the United States", among other things. If you visit this group's website, it seems that they are crying about all the poor illegals in this country, and how unfairly they are treated. Why is it that there seem to be an abundance of organizations in the United States that are geared toward certain nationalities, with the exception of white people. Don't get me wrong, I know there are organizations out there aimed at white people, but they are also termed racist. I for one am sick and tired of all of these whiney groups that target only a certain nationality, and think that they have some kind of right to get things in this country simply because of their color. Whatever happened to "the most qualified person gets the job"? How do you feel about this?

Simply put, anyone who is a citizen of the US already has the same rights as everyone else...except of course where things like Affirmative Action trumps the rights of one group in favor of minorities for imagined oppressions.

For everyone who is not a citizen and is here illegally, you have NO rights under the Constitution and no amount of whining is going to change that.

That is of course until the liberals change that in order to gain the extra votes that the illegals represent.

I don't know about where you live, but even if you're illegal, where I live you have rights. The right to walk in to a hospital/doctor's office and get free service. The right to speak Spanish wherever you want and demand that others speak it also. The right for your kids to have a free education.

We don't get free hospital and doctors visits here...well I do but it is through the VA.

My wife does not however, nor can we afford any insurance...so it is all out of pocket when she has to go.

The education is not free either...that is paid for through property tax.

Looks like those illegals have it pretty good.

I wasn't saying that everyone gets free medical and education. If you are white, then of course you have to pay. The illegals don't though.

I didn't know about this, but it doesn't surpise me.

Maybe if the 'poor illegals' were NOT illegals, they wouldn't be treated 'so unfairly'! I don't care who gets up and screams, I will NEVER condone coddling criminals. That's what the illegals are.

Seems to me the 'poor illegals' are getting a whole lot more than most hard-working folks! Things in a language NOT the first language of the US, no taxes, health care they don't even have to pay for...the list goes on.

I still think we should take our military and give them a job to help the US...round up the illegals, ship them home and lock our borders! The soldiers get paid anyway. Let our tax dollars work FOR US for once!

I have lost out on so many jobs because I'm not bilingual. It's MY country! Why should I be bilingual?!! I have no use for them. If they were such hard-working 'illegals', let them go and work hard at fixing THEIR country!

I totally agree with you on all points. Pretty soon there won't be any jobs left for anyone in this country who doesn't speak Spanish and English, unless you want to work in a coal mine or something.

You are right, there is a prevelance of groups of people who are not white.
I don't think that our society has ever been "the most qualified person gets the job".
I think that was a good slogan ot one point and people beleived it was true but it rarely was.
I am generally considered to have a Pollyanna outlook on things but this subject is a sore spot because if I start talking about it I sound racist and I am one of the least racist persons I know. Susan

You are probably right about the most qualified person getting the job never being realistic. As for you sounding racist, accept the fact that if you are white, you are racist. I deal with it every day.

Ok, I had to wait a little bit before responding because I was a bit pissed. First off the LULAC, is a great orginization and it was set up becasue even in this day and age ignorant people still treat minorities as second class citizens. As far as them being upset at the treatment of illegals, many people in the hispanic/latin community are, these people are their family. Secondly these "whiney" groups as you put it are the reason so many minorities finally are treated like people and not objects. See some races and ethnic groups actually have to fight to recive such civil liberties that are offered so freely in our consitution. Just becasue you're suppose to get them doesn't mean it happens. I've spent my entire life fighting to prove my worth becasue of my skin color and background and I'll be damned if some racist biggot is going to make me feel bad at the fact that there are groups and people who are willing to help support my rights and freedoms.

myLot reputation of 75/100. dragonryder (3572)  5 years ago

Well I am sorry that it pissed you off. This is directed more at Hispanics than any other minority group. If you are a person of color and you get treated wrongly then I don't agree with that. I also don't agree with getting special treatment that you don't deserve just because of your color. I see both sides of the coin where I work. It's never right when someone gets unfairly treated because of their color, no matter the reason. It does go both ways. I guess if you don't mind having a future in this country where most jobs will be occupied by people who aren't qualified, but get them just because of their color, then more power to you and the rest of the country. I for one would prefer having someone who knows what they are doing and not someone who will just take less pay. As I said, if you get unfairly treated because of your color and no other reason, then that is wrong. It still holds true for whites though when they get passed over for a job because they are white, know what they are doing, and therefore would require more pay than a minority. Fair is fair and if our government would do their job, and employers and schools would treat everyone the same, there would be no need for any organization for any race or sexual orientation. We all have our personal experiences in this situation, but to get pissed off and say there's a need for these groups, in my mind, is not helping in the long run.

Well considering I am of hispanic background this does effect me. I have been overlooked all to often because of my ethinc and racial background. There are tons of qualified and educated minorities who get passed up constantly by white people for jobs that they could easily do and are qualified for. Yes there are some companies that will outsource to other placs for cheap labor because they don't want to pay someone who knows better what is truely deserved. However, more often then not it is the minority that is overlooked. I watched over and over a minoirty person trained someone in a company but then gets passed over for promotion time and time again by the same people they train. How is that fair? No I don't think a person should be hired in a job they aren't qualified to do but I don't think one should be over looked either just becasue of their skin color. I deal with racist jacka$$es everyday and if it wasn't for these "whining" groups I'd be stuck cleaning someone's house for a living instead of working toward my law degree. So you can think these groups are a waste of time all you want, but until you've walked a mile in my shoes don't tell me what a waste of time they are.

myLot reputation of 75/100. dragonryder (3572)  5 years ago

When I put that this was directed at Hispanics, I meant that my problem is with illegals. You mentioned that illegals are sometimes family members of people in LULAC. That still does not make it right for an organization based in the United States to support illegal activity. I forgot you are part Hispanic. It still does not change the fact that improper practices are done all over in regards to employees. It is not just people who are minorities that are treated unfairly. I don't have to be of color to understand where you're coming from though. I see how people are treated where I work because of their color. However, it goes both ways. I see people of color get treated better because they are the race they are, and vice versa. I get discrimated against on occasion because I am white. I am not saying those groups are a waste of time or whatever. I am saying it's sad that there's even a need for groups like that. Some people will just never get their heads out of their butts and see a person for a person and hire them for the knowledge of the job. I don't need to walk in your shoes to know about discrimination. Just because I am white doesn't mean I don't get discriminated against. It does go both ways.
