Okay, now that I posted the dystopia thread, here is the utopia thread. For review sake. Utopia is basically a perfect or near-perfect human society. You can take this discussion as you wish but I want to get your thoughts on this side of the scope too. Looking at the current world and current state of human affairs, do you think utopia is possible? If it is possible, please share. If not, state why. You can also state the type of utopia you think is possible or you views in general. Personally, I do not think a true utopia will exist, but I do believe there is better for humanity. I believe there will be a time people will finally be able to come together the likes of which humanity never rationally thought possible. Maybe its more faith in me speaking, but thats how I feel on it. Please share what you think about this. I'd like to see how this and the other discussion go.

Yes, I think utopia is possible. The USA is a utopia in the making. No, it is not a utopia as of yet. However, the tools are there for people to build one. The Bill of Rights and the Constitution with its built in admendment process provide the means for the people to build the kind of society they want. In the USA we have exactly the kind of government we deserve as we can build our own. If we are not advancing toward a utopia, whose fault is it?

Awesome perspective and you are right, there are some fundamental tools toward a peaceful society. I don't believe in a real utopia, but there is a chance of bettering society and further understanding between humans.

Yeh, i think so.. it is possible. There are certain community or organization that i've known and read. Like the Brook Farm. Brook Farm is a cooperative community established in 1841 in west roxbury that now is part of Boston. As a joint stock company by leaders of the philosophical movement known as transcendentalism. This community was organized as the Brook Far Institute of Agriculture of Education on a farm nearly 80 hectares or 200 acres. You can read and also search the prototype of political utopias like "The REpublic". The Republic is a philosophic work written by Plato in the form of a dialogue, an inquiry into the nature of justice and the organization of a perfect society. The work is a lengthy exposition of the ideas underlying Platos earlier dialogues and is an attempt to invite rational, ethical and religious principles.:)

Yep, I've reviewed what you've posted Cia, years back :) Definitely worth some time if one is interested in topics like this. Yes most of the material is lengthy, but it does take time and effort to build up an argument or even a concept of utopia.

Okay I'm going to get New Agey on you in my reply. There are those like author Doreen Virtue who believe in the starseed children, the Crystal, Indigo and Rainbow children who are here to guide us into this new world. The indigos are usually teens or young people now and they are the warrirs and they fight for truth and ethics and fairness and the like while the Crystals are newer and are more laid back and compassionate and they are healers. All are thought to be psychic and to communicate telepathically. Those who believe think that the rise in Autistic children isn't due to vaccines or preservatives in our food or more knowledge but Crystal Children. Supposedly the new children aren't Autistic in the classic sense, they interact with others and are very affectionate - they jut are non-talkers and don't talk until later. Their parents claim to communicate with them just fine. The people who believe in this believe we are moving towards a more spiritual world. That these children will be our teachers and our guides. I believe that this whole 2012 thing isn't so much an end to the world but the end of the world as we know it. We can either become warring tribes - each to their own -whoever has more resources has more power or we work together - towards an even better world then before when greed and materialism had its way. And yes I'm a closet materialistic - even if I'd be willing to give it all away to someone who needs it or - for this more perfect world. Did I answer your question or confuse you or both? Uh oh after all this talk about the new children you'll never visit my discussions again. Oh well. This is me, I read the Celestine Prophecy and saw a lot of truth. Flaky as that makes me!

It has been said the communism in it's purest form is utopia. But that hasn't turly succeeded. Would utopia be a wonderful state to live in or would it be boring. Everyone the same...having the same thing..not having a goal that is higher? A better world where there is equality would be as close as we could get. I'm banking on improvement with each generation.

well i believe that we could never have one because we are our own person and everybody has their own opinions and for some reason it will never come to a compromise,we all have a different reason,it would be great to see us in this world all compromise some day, what a blessing that would be.great discussion.pattie

No it is not possible to live in Utopia. It would mean that everyone would be happy, and happiness means different things for each one of us. Sometimes what you think is unfortunate is exactly what other wants it to be. We're the same specie but we're also inviduals and building Utopia always ends with killing uniqeness in order to make one scheme of happines.
