| Spring Festival  | | | |  Spring Festival is the most important traditional festival in China.It is like Christmas in the western countries.It marks the first day of a brand new year in Chinese lunar calendar.People celebrate this special moment in various ways.Family get-together is the most important thing for this festival.So family membbersunite at home on the eve of the Spring Festival and have g big dinner party.After that ,they will stay up all night watching TV.At mid-night,young men and children will set off crackers to welcome the coming new year and then eat dumplings,which means there will be abundant food and good lunk in the following year.Visiting friends is also one of the activities and it may continue for several days.Dragon and Lion Dances can also be seen in the downtown areas, which are performed by volunteers of some local organizations. There are also other activities during the Spring Festival season such as, telling sories, playing cards and mahjong.

| |  Hello ywxyz and welcome to myLot. I hope you enjoy your time here. Yes your spring festival sounds more likeour new year. only instead od mahjong we watch football games. Here on the east coast of the United State fireworks are shot off a midnight too. In the middle of the country we did not shoot off fire works. We only did that on independance day the 4th of July. Here in the southern part of the country a traditional food is blackeyed peas and collards. They are suppoded to mean an abundent year too. It is nice to learn the customs from other countries

| | Christmas is supposed to be the celebration of the birt of Christ Jesus. But there was a pagan celeration of the sun god and that was incorperated into christianiaty centuries ago. It has since become so ingrained that many people think that Jesus was born then but we really don't kow when Jesus was born except that it had to be in the spring. The decorating of pine trees is also of pagan origan. I don't know wherre the gift giveing came from. But today Jesus's birthday has become so secondary to buying and giveing of gifts. Christmas isn't until December 25 but many decorations have already been in the stores since August. | | | |
