I'm eating baby food |
| |
| Hi all... no, I'm not reverting to my baby days, but I had stomach surgery a few years ago, and lately I have had a lot of stomach problems. It seems I am either getting sick or my stomach hurts. I think if I get one bite of the wrong thing or one bite too much of anything I have problems. So, last night I sent my daughter and her hubby to the store and they picked out some really good baby food made by Gerber. The portions are small, of course and they are bland. It seems my stomach is feeling better already. I had my breakfast of real food, just an egg McMuffin made from home with a wheat English muffin and a slice of cheese and an egg. For lunch I had Gerber Graduates brand of spaghetti that comes in its own little microwavable bowl. Later I will have a fruit. I am spacing each thing out so that not much is in my stomach at one time. I am feeling better eating this way than eating regular food. It seems that I am always in pain if I get one bite too much and then I am suffering for hours. When I first had the surgery I had to be on baby food for 3 months, if I remember right. Anyway, I have been told that if I start having problems that I am gaining weight or my stomach is getting larger that I should go back on baby food, so that is what I am doing. Has anyone ever had to eat baby food after having stomach surgery? Did you hate it? Some of this stuff tastes pretty good, I think. ~Have a great day~ Cookie | | | | | |

| | Thanks Pattie. I am hoping this will help me get on track again. I do feel better today by just eating this blander baby food than stuff that I cook. The amount is just enough to give me some nourishment and not expand my stomach. I hope my stomach will come back down and I will get used to not putting too much into it. I have that dumping syndrome and it gets really painful and sickening too. | | | |

| | Ohhh thanks zhang, that is sweet of you. I am not in pain today because I started the baby food last night. I have been in pain up until then just because I seem to get too much in my little stomach and it hurts, or that hernia I have hurts.. so this baby food seems to help, because it is a very small amount and it has a bland texture and not lots of spices. So I think this is going to help me get much better. Thanks for your concern. ~Have a great day~ Cookie | | | |

| | I had the gastric bypass in 2001 and my stomach is of course very small, yet I seem to always eat more than my stomach allows and I get sick. Or if it isn't that, it could be that the texture is not right and I get pain. I have a big hernia at the surgical scar too, and I think I get a lot of pain from it when food gets stuck in there. Anyway I feel better today after eating baby food. The small amounts in each jar/container seems to be just the right amount to not be hungry and not cause pain. | | | |

| | I had gall bladder surgery and the doctor told me to eat bland food but I had ate a lot of soups. I never thought about eating baby food. That makes a lot of sense. THanks for sharing this information. Take care of yourself. | | | | | | |

| | My daughter said she was going to eat soups and not eat regular food. They are too salty for me. The baby food seems to be making me feel better. It's only been a day, but we will see if it continues. Thanks for stopping in gewcew23! ~Have a great day~ Cookie | | | |

| | I have never had stomach repairs thankfully. But i am glad that you are taking the needed steps to stay alive and healthy. These baby foods are done to high standards and while not the most flavourful, they are nutritious and will supply you with the goodies you need to get on with life. Good for you. Oh, get well soon eh? | | | | | | |

| | Just thought of something too. The cost of eating for you will drop like a rock because these jars or food are quite inexpensive if one will fill you up. I'll bet you lose weight with this too! | | | |

| | Hi Freebc, yes 1 jar or one container is enough for a while. What I am doing is spreading it all out.. and not eating the whole meal at once. I eat the baby cereal from one jar, and then wait a couple of hours and eat a container of fruit, and then at lunch have something and follow with a jar of fruit or a veggie, and then supper eat a Gerber meal and a fruit. I also have some single serve apple sauces I can go to. I do hope to get this weight off too. Thank you! | | | |

| | I never had stomach surgery, but if I ever need to I will try the baby food. Most of the baby food is very good to eat. My sister had jaw surgery and had to have her mouth wired shut for 3 months and all she could eat was baby food. she lost a bunch of weight. I sure you get to feeling better soon. | | | | | | |

| | Dang champ! I hope you can recover fast. I wish you a speedy recovery and I hope you don't strain yourself during recovery. For your topic though, I remember when I was pre-10s, I had a nasty stomach infection and wasn't allowed to have solid foods for a couple of weeks. It was a lot of agony too and I always felt tired along with that. I did get better though so don't get too worried. In recovery though, I really rediscovered foods, "grown up" foods from my perspective. And after that I became more of a connoisseur and growing cook. Probably a weird story, but your post reminded me of that. | | | | | | |

| | Well, I plan to graduate back to regular foods in time, but right now I am going to go back to the way I had to do when I first had surgery. I'm sick of feeling bad just because I eat a meal. | | | |

| | I've never had to eat baby food since I was a baby. My friend had gastric bypass and she had to eat it for a while. Everytime her stomach starts hurting her then she goes back to eating baby food and foods that she puree's cause it doesn't hurt her then. She can eat just a little tiny bit of food and feel like she's going to get sick. But she has lost a lot of weight and really looks like a different person. | | | | | | |

| | Well, I lost 140 but then gained back 70 over the last 2 years. I've just got to get back on track. I'm going to stick with the baby food until I can handle regular food again. | | | |

| | Well, I never had to eat baby food since my infancy, but I do understand that it is indeed a bland diet that digests easily.. While playing it easy on the stomach, you need to take care of the fact that you essentially eat balanced and nutritious diet.. Egg ofcourse is preferable but you also need green leafy vegetables and foods with some fiber content.. Pre-digested proteins and carbohydrates may just do the trick.. Perhaps you need to get a professional advice on this, I suppose.. Thanks Mike | | | | | | |
