What is the most important contribution of classical music can make to society .

From the perspective of someone who listens to heavy metal, punk, trance, and music from all corners of the world, classical music is to MTV and B.ET what holy water is to the legions of hell.

In other words, it helps balance out a bunch of the crap that surrounds us. Its like finding a classic novel in between the national enquirer and soap opera digest in the check out isle at the supermarket.

Classical music is appealing on so many levels. Sure, I can enjoy moshing and headbanging in a metal concert or close dancing with a girl, but I can still value and understand the incredible importance of classical music to our society.

It shows how music can be played, without damaging your ear, and shows how high a standard one can obtain. It gives a glimpse of the history of music, modes, and the background where most of us came from.

You can imagine the pace of life in the seventeenth century and before, listen to real melodies instead of discord and find out what a real melody sounds like. Many of the musicians of our day studied classical music and even though they may not write that type, the knowledge and exercises enabled them to write and sing better had they not done so.
