Do you really know who was Santa Claus in Real Life?

I heard a story that santa claus was a european figure. But I'm not really sure who was he? Will you please share your information as to regards santa claus?

There once was a Saint Nicolas of either Poland or Russia and he would give gifts to the poor.And he was the real life person Santa Claus was modeled on.at least that is what I remember hearing.

Yeah that's the story I heard on it, I've watched several movies and read several books that back that up.

Santa Claus is supposed to live in Finnish Lapland, somewhere near Rovaniemi, though I forget the name of the precise location. Some people say he ain't real though, the fools!
