Does anyone know how to make cat food? |
| |
| I can't stand the smell of the dry food. The cats are so picky with the moist cat food. At the same time they love raw chicken. Since I was buying a meat plan next month I was just thinking I could buy extra something to make them a special batch of food. Boy does the moist food add up when u have 3 cats. I contacted a shelter for the pregnant cat. She will stay here for now. Thanks a bunch for the help. | | | | | |

| | This is awesome to read. When I had three cats in Miami they would scare me when I was cleaning my chicken. hen when I started to feed them it they were fine. I also noticed the stool was not so funky as with canned or bag foods. Thanks so much this makes my day. I will take the list to my butcher. I also need to check for the organic foods as well. :) | | | |

| | Check out this article on about.com it has excellent guidelines for a raw cat food diet. http://cats.about.com/cs/... Keep in mind that you cannot just buy any meat for your pets ot eat. They require high quality meat - preferably grain fed and organic - to ensure that they do not eat any antibiotics or other products that can make them sick (think about it, when was the last time an organic food was recalled because of salmonella?). If you can not afford to buy or can not find high quality meat, you should not place your animal on a raw diet. | | | | | | |

| | Erm .... that's inaccurate. Cats and dogs both have bacteria killing properties in their digestive systems, ensuring harmful contents are obliterated long before affecting the animal. The only circumstances were diet caused an issue with the animal is if the issue was already present, and the diet encouraged it. Think about it, when in the wild, did cats and dogs and their ancestors get picky and choosy about only attacking and eating high quality prey? Erm no. They killed and ate what came by. You do have to be careful which kinds of meat at which ages, that much is true .. but it has nothing to do with quality. It has to do with the nutrients found in that particular meat. For example, my dog is on prey model diet. He loves lamb, but because of the high protein count can only have it once a month. Most of the time it's beef or pork, which are normally comprised of bulk purchases through a processing plant. My dog is one of the healthiest his vet cares for, and coinidently, the only one on prey model. You do NOT need to buy high end meat. Again, you can find this all out by googling prey model diets. There'll be myths regarding it that you'll find busted, like this one .. and some helpful FAQ's to get you started. | | | |

| | Even so, humans shouldn't eat the crappy meat at the super market, let alone animals. If you don't buy the high end meats they won't be getting meat that is like the meat they would get in the wild. By buying organic, grain fed, and free range that meat will be antibiotic free, chemical free, etc and will be as close as you can get to meat in the wild. Animals can still salmonella, but healthy ones are not as susceptible to it. If your cat gets salmonella they can pass it on to you. Why take the chance? | | | |

| | If you do make your own food, which is completely possible, just make sure you are convering all the food groups so your babies get all their nutrients. Cat foods are usually fortified with nutrients to supplement your cats diet, so just please be thorough. | | | | | | |
