| | It is quite a long time I have not read novels.I do not know if it is because of my laziness or because of my business. I wish I could have time and have peace of mind to read some books in such a rainy untumn afternoon, of course, there should be a cup of hot coffee on the stand by my side. To answer your question, If I am reading a novel in English, I surely read it for the story. Cos I do not think it is a good idea while you are reading an English book, you remind yourself from time to time that your purpose of reading is to learn English language. It will definitely ruin the story, and what is worse, it gives you too much pressure in reading. In most cases, we lose the interests of reading. If we read English novels for the story, for the content, we will be greatly attracted by the plots by the charactors. after we finish reading the books, our English level is improved without our consciousness. | | | | | | |

| | I definitely read it for the story. Luckily my English has improved a lot in the past years (ever since I started reading novels in English) but that is only a pleasant side effect. I actually started reading books in English only because a few years ago I was very curious about a certain book and I only had it available in English :) | | | | | | |

| | Hi my friend, what about you, I do it for both. Somehow I had been attracted by England and the English language way before I started learning English at school with 11 years old. As soon as I started it has always been my favorite language and school subject. As soon as I was beyond the stage of only reading little kids magazines designed for pupils learning the language, I started with books and English magazines. From then on, when I have the chance to read a book in the original English version, I want that and not the German translation. I have read the Harry Potter 1 to 4 both in English and German and liked the English much more. I bought vol 5 and 6 in English and now I wait for Vol. 7 to be a paperback as I dont like hardcover too much. Too expensive and takes too much space in the bookshelves. | | | | | | |

| | I read a story for the story itself. I enjoy reading books and if my English improves because of it then that's a plus for me:P | | | | | | |

| | Well, that's kind of hard to answer since English is the only language we speak in our house. So, I suppose I read the story in English because I understand the language better and I have no choice about reading in other languages that I am not familiar with at this point. | | | | | | |
