Do you buy baby clothes at yard sales? |
|
I know a few people who absolutely refuse to buy baby clothes at yard sales and garage sales. They INSIST that the clothes be brand new, even though they are on a fixed income and can't afford a lot of new things. To me, it doesn't matter. If I'm strapped for cash, and I see something cute for my child at a yard sale, I'm going to get it, instead of forking out a lot more money to buy it new. I mean, the child isn't going to care that it's not new. The child is just going to be happy that he/she has clothes on their back. Now, I won't buy things that are full of holes, or messed up a great deal. But if there's one minor stain, or something of that nature, I'll get it if I need it. I don't believe that everything needs to be new for a baby.

1. hip2bemom (2358) | 3 years ago | I bought alot of my babies clothes at gargae sales. You can find some really nice stuff at them for good prices. With how fast a baby grows out of an outfit it is hard to pay 20 dollars for them. I don't buy anything with stains or holes in it I look through the clothes to see if they were taken care of. I even bought my babies crib at a garage sale I got a really nice jenny lind crib for $20!

AdTe23 (1700) | 3 years ago | Wow, I've never been lucky enough to find a crib for that cheap. I've gotten some really nice things though. I got a carseat for $2, and there's absolutely nothing wrong with it.

2. lilwonders123 (1252) | 3 years ago | Most of my kids clothes are not new. My sister has kids, so do my cousins (there are a lot of us). We all have kids of varying ages so we pass clothes along to one another all the time. We do not pass along clothes that are messed up or have holes in them, but between us all we pass around a lot of clothes. Especially when they are infants. They out grow their clothes before they can mess them up. I also have girlfriends with small kids. We swap clothes too. I have been known to buy cute clothes at garage sales. What is the point of expensive outfits they will outgrow after they have only worn it a couple of times.

AdTe23 (1700) | 3 years ago | I totally agree. Kids outgrow clothes so fast, it's a waste of money to spend $10 or $20 on an outfit brand new, when you can spend just a couple dollars at a yard sale.

3. CurlyRed (3474) | 3 years ago | Babyhood is THE BEST time to buy second hand clothes for your child!
The average baby wears an outfit during maybe a three week to one month period. Then they outgrow it and it's never worn again.
The average adult can have a pair of pants in their rotation for decades.
Why spend $50 on a baby outfit you can pick up in pretty much new condition for $6 at a yard sale?
My husband bought our baby all kinds of new clothes when she was little. Half of it never even got worn once.
I don't know why people would be so worried about it.. it's the 5 to 10 year old clothes that get all ratty and stained, lol..and ripped in the trees, grass stains, missing buttons.. paint, lol.
Take advantage of your fast growing baby, dress them in style on the cheap!

True. I've still got flip flops and a pair of tennis shoes I've had since high school and that was 11 years ago when I bought them!

| dloud2002 (6) | 3 years ago | Thats the good thing about baby clothes at yard sales. They are hardly worn (due to the fact that they outgrow them so quick) and at a yard sale, people selling the items just want them to be sold to someone who needs them for their child as they are no longer needed by that child. Ah. The beauty of yard sales!! Dave

4. maddysmommy (10990) | 3 years ago | I have in the past for my son. He is forever growing and when I bought new clothing, he would outgrow it within a month so I started to buy t-shirts and shorts, jackets, jeans, sweat tops and stuff from second hand stores because I knew he would outgrow them. I do buy new clothes for special occasions and things but I don't mind second hand either.

I have found the cutest outfits that look almost new at yard sales. I guess some people are a bit too snotty to buy things at yard sales. As for me, i love bargain shopping!

AdTe23 (1700) | 3 years ago | I'm the same way. I have bought some really cute outfits at yard sales, and most of them look like they've never been worn. I even found a couple maternity shirts for myself.

6. marylouu69 (258) | 3 years ago | I have went to garage sales to buy baby clothes. The way they grow so fast makes it a waste to buy all brand new. If you don't have money garage sales are the way to go and save money for other thins you need to pay!

7. tdbrower1969 (1064) | 3 years ago | I love to go to garage sales, and I bought my babies clothes mostly at garage sales. I still buy my sons clothes at garage sales and thrift stores mostly, he is so hard on clothes and outgrows everything so fast that it just seems like a waste of money to buy new, when I can find nice things at garage sales. I don't buy things with holes or stains, or torn seams or anything, so I always inspect whatever I am buying. But, I also know people like this who don't ever buy anything but new clothes for their babies, if they can afford it then I guess that is their own choice.

8. barbaradjt (4120) | 3 years ago | Hand me downs from my family yes. Yard sale clothes for the baby no. I would wear the yard sale items if I had to, but my children get the best if I can help it. I would wear shoes full of holes, if it ment my children could have the best. I know, you may think I am strange, and thats ok. Peace to you!

9. Sacrificialclam (4467) | 3 years ago | My sister loves yard sales and consignment stores for her two kids. The first is 3 years and the 2nd is just 3 months.
They don't know that someone else has worn their clothes. And I doubt they care. I know I didn't as I got older. My mother was tickled when she got a pair of namebrand jeans for $3 at a consignment shop. I could care less.
Now a days, I get all my clothes from my sister's closet.=)

10. ravinskye (6119) | 3 years ago | I don't have a problem buying clothes at yardsales. I also shop at salvation army and good will. Sometimes you can find really good stuff there. My mom bought my daughter this really pretty dress that probably would have been $30 in a store. She only paid $4 for it. I try not to buy things that look too worn or stained but I think its fine for my kids to wear second hand clothes.
