Do you copy vhs videos to dvd? What is the best way? |
|
I have some vhs videos of my kids and I want to copy them onto dvd as the dvd will last I see that you can buy a machine to copy them one is by pinnacle I think you use your computer to do it. If you have copied them what is the best machine to do it? I don't want to pay someone to do it the birth of my child is on there and I don't want someone else watching that. There are some machines on sale on ebay to do this are they worth it?

1. cempires (146) | 1 year ago | Personally I never buy equiptment (stereos, tv's, media stuff) used, and I dont like ebay. I have not actually transfered any of these, but hubby and I have been talking about it becuase VHS will soon be obsolete, and we have satalite DVR, and would love to transfer some movies. I am pretty sure that a machine like this exists, but my advice is to go to a real electronics store, or even Circuit City, and browse and ask questions, you want to make sure you get a warrenty also, anytime you buy media.

2. qradav (110) | 1 year ago | personally i use my computer to do it i just use a capture card (some video cards have this feature as well) then i just connect my vhs player to the connectors on the card and then play the vhs. i can now see the vhs video on my monitor screen and then record it using software like windows movie maker (i use other software which are better but windows movie maker will do) after recording is done, i use software like adobe premiere if I want to edit the video and add/remove some parts if you dont need to edit and just prefer to burn it to DVD immediately, you can use your favorite DVD burning software (i.e. nero vision)

4. alfecris (165) | 1 year ago | actually, there is this certain device like grandfathers that could burn dvd from vhs and good thing is that you do not need to use computer to copy it all the way through... all you gotta do is plug in the powers with your television, put in the vhs and so as the blank dvd then read some instruction then poof its done. the machine i am talking to you is from the states and my grandpa brought it here... its nice so portable.. actually it is like a dvd player, extactly the same... but the cad thing is i do not know the name, ill just try to check it out when i get into his room.

5. twoey68 (5966) | 1 year ago | I never do. I really don't see the point unless it's like family video's. I have a VHS tape of my Mom's wedding that I will probably have put on DVD. Movies though I've just been buying them and replacing them. I think the quality of the VHS movies is so low that it's really not worth it to copy them to DVD but that's just me. **AT PEACE WITHIN** ~~STAND STRONG IN YOUR BELIEFS~~

coffeebreak (2825) | 10 months ago | Aussie - can you copy vhs to dvd this way and will the dvd's then play on a tv? I am wanting to copy my vhs home movies from my vhs cam corder. Would rather buy a dvd recorder and not go through my PC cause I dont understand all the things you need to do nt he PC settings wise. I can copy from my vhs cam corder to my vhs video player and make a regular size vhs tape out of it, but want to put it on DVD and give to the family. I did this once via the computer (don't remember at all how I did it!) but I did it using my digital camera and the 15 second movie clips it has. I copied them onto the dvd, the dvd played on the PC but not on my downstairs DVD player/tv - said it didn't recognize the dvd. I played the dvd on my upstairs dvdplayer/tv and it played just fine. I gave it to my daughter but it didn't play on her dvdplayer/tv. I was thinking it had something to do with either the TV or the dvd player -age wise, but the units were all fairly new. I worry about going to ask at a store, cuase half the time they don't know, they just tell you something to make you believe it and then you buy and deal with it not working and all - been there done that! I appreciate your help.

Aussies2007 (2557) | 10 months ago | The best way to copy VHS Videos is via a video recorder on your television. You shoud buy a DVD recorder which incorporate a VHS player... that way you can do it all from one machine. You need to look for a DVD recorder/player which is compatible with everything. The first ordinary DVD players could only read DVDs+R. Computer DVDs are -R. That is why your family could not read your DVD. Get the latest technology... and buy one which can also read divX files... which are .avi files. Most of the movies on the internet are .avi. That way you will be able to watch them on your TV without spending hours converting them on your computer. The price vary for DVD recorders. You will pay more for them if they have an hard drive in them. The hard drive is only good if you want to copy a lot of stuff from the television. As for copying VHS tapes... any VHS tape prior to 1995 should be alright. But after that... they became copyrighted... and your DVD recorder will not copy any VHS tape which is copyrighted. This do not apply to your own recordings with your video camera... of course.
