When do you start Christmas shopping? |
|
Recently, I was shopping and I noticed that Christmas items were already out. It is not even Halloween yet and the stores already have Christmas trees and other decorations out. This is an odd year for me as I normally have my Christmas shopping done by this time or shortly thereafter. This year, however, I have not even begun. So my question is when do you start shopping? Do you shop throughout the year when you find good deals or do you wait until the last minute?

| 1. WiseReptiles (74) | 3 years ago | My wife and I start Christmas shopping right after the new year. There are a lot of clearence items and such. But we shop all year and search for good deals so right after the new year when we are out shopping if we something that is good priced we get it and give them out as birthday gifts or christmas presents

| 2. katebush (65) | 3 years ago | I've tried several times to do my Christmas shopping early, but I never have patiency enough to keep gifts as a secret for a long time. So I gave up on it and now I start it somewhere in early November. As for a good bargains - November and December are the perfect time. Pretty crowded there in a stores though. Also I don't mind to look for presents on the Internet - Sears catalog for example.

3. jillhill (11840) | 3 years ago | I start right after christmas...and shop all year. I have to soon go into my closet and dig them out to see what I ahve already bought. I save tons of money that way. And give great gifts.

4. maybebaby (948) | 3 years ago | I'm starting my Chirstmas shopping this weekend. I live in a town about two hours away from the really good shopping so some friends and I have planned a Christmas shopping weekend. I don't really know what I'm getting people yet, but I guess I'll have time to think during the drive.

| 5. momincharge (82) | 3 years ago | I'm a year-round shopper too although this year I'm way behind just because I'm so broke. Also, I can do some shopping early but as the kids get older it becomes harder to buy them things too early. I pick up small stuff for them that I know they'll like but I don't do their main shopping until closer to the holidays. For other family members I do buy things when I see something they will like that is on sale. I have several Veggie Tales movies for my nephew that I got for free when a new store gave away coupons for $10 off any purchase. My niece will be getting some fun things from the super sale last June at the Disney store. I also pick up extra items that we donate to an adopt-a-family christmas program. I just put them all in a box and sort them out in late October to see what else I might need to get.

thegirlnextdoor (241) | 3 years ago | I hear you about being broke this year. I have usually bought most of the bigger items by Halloween, but htis year I have not even begun. I am so sad. I like to get the shopping done early though because I really don't like to fight the crowds closer to Christmas time. Plus if you start right after Christmas, they have some good deals on the gift baskets and things like that.

| 7. Eventually (7) | 3 years ago | It seems to me that Christmas gets more "commercial" every year with kids being targeted with tv adverts etc for months before it. I think this raises their expectations and puts a lot of financisl pressure on families.

thegirlnextdoor (241) | 3 years ago | I agree. I do not have any kids of my own, but I am a nanny to four and an aunt to two, so I feel the crunch of the commercialism as much as parents. Six kids who all expect to get fantastic presents. I may not have to buy them as much, but they do still expect it to be great. That is not even counting my siblings, parents, and friends that I have to buy things for.

8. mortimas1 (121) | 3 years ago | We try to buy a couple things every payday starting in july, then we are prepared and when crunch time comes we are not going broke, I also buy online early to avoid postal delays, today I bought dog toys from buy.com and a bunch of books from a-1 books through mypowermall (in my profile) The key I think is to have the bulk of it done before thanksgiving and grab up all the after xmas sales in January, plus I buy all winter items in the summer and summer items in the winter.

thegirlnextdoor (241) | 3 years ago | I do the same thing, buying summer stuff in winter and winter stuff in summer. It ends up being A LOT cheaper that way. I think I will be doing the bulk of my shopping online this year so that I can earn points and cash back from mypoints or sendearnings.

| 9. zhai007 (59) | 3 years ago | well, for starters i really love buying stuff, not only for myself actually, the thing is i think i got have a tendency of buying cristmas goodies all through out the year. Call me out of my mind but it's true, i don't actually buy stuff weekly, but as i go for a stroll at the mall then i'd see some good stuff that's perfect to give at christmas day then i'd be spending money for it. So when Christmas is already up i don't have to go cramming about to buy stuff. I am kind of an early bird.

thegirlnextdoor (241) | 3 years ago | I usually do the same thing. If I am shopping and I see something that I know someone I have to get a Christmas gift for would like for a good deal, I will purchase it whether it is June or January. I just like to get it all done and if I can save money in the process by buying early, then even better.
