Bumbo seat |
|
Has anyone ever heard or used a Bumbo seat? My friend has one for her baby. It is a seat that you can put your child in to eat, play, etc. However, it does not have a back to it, so your child has to use his or her upper body muscles to support themselves. My daugther is still weak in her upper muscles, so I thought this might help. They also come with a tray. I thought it could serve as a traveling high chair as well. What are your thoughts? Do you use one? Do you like/dislike it? What are the pros and cons of using one?

Also, as for a traveling high chair - if there are no straps to secure this to a chair - yuor little one could throw their head back and end up on the floor. I would say the best place for this is on the floor. At least if a child can flip it..they won't fall to far.
If your daughter is having developmental problems I would check with the pediatrician to determine is she is ready for this.

One of our neighbors had one, and she loved it. I don't think theirs had a tray, or at least if it did, I never saw her using it.
As someone else already pointed out, it's not really practical for a traveling high chair since it doesn't have the straps to secure it to a chair. My friend always just used hers on the floor.

3. marciaj (804) | 3 years ago | I don't like these seats. They are marketed for babies who are almost ready to sit up but still need a little support. Given lots of opportunity and support from a boppy or a regular pillow, babies learn to sit up pretty quickly, so they are useful for a very short period of time. I think they may delay a baby learning to sit up independently because it offers a lot of support and takes away opportunities to practice solo. As for using it as a feeding seat, it has no back or straps, so I would recommend instead a booset seat that folds up and can be strapped to a regular chair. That is what I use.
I would skip the bumbo and just let her sit up with a couple of pillows around her to cushion her if she falls. This will be more beneficial to her in strengthening those muscles she needs to sit up unsupported.

After I bougth bumbo seat, I just put her inside when she don't like to lay down. Now she is 13 months, no longer using Bumbo seat anymore. She can walk very well now. Everyday me need to chase behind her wherever she go. If not, she will climb up to table, cupboard....

5. foxyfire33 (5796) | 3 years ago | I admit I've never used one but I don't understand the point of them. It just seems like one more product for parents to plop their babies down in. It doesn't seem all that safe to me either. There are no straps to make sure the baby doesn't tumble out or tip over. I don't know mabe I'm just one of those moms that doesn't get into baby fads...I'd rather let my baby build his upper body strength by sitting on my lap.
