Halloween movies  email this discussion to a friend?

Since Halloween is almost here, I thought I'd ask what everyone's favorite scary movies are. I haven't seen an extensive amount of scary movies, so I don't feel that I can pick one well. And just to direct the discussion a little bit, I don't particularly want to hear about the Saw series of movies (or anything along that line) because I'm not interested in all that gore, more like classic movies like Psycho and Nightmare on Elm Street.

Nightmare on Elm Street is my all time favorite. I'm a big fan of scary movies and thrillers. Poltergeist, Hellraiser, Scream... There are so many I can't even name them all really.

It would be better if you just gave me a movie you'd want to see or were curious about and I'd tell you whether it was good or not.

I'm a movie nerd.

Those were the kinds of recommendations I was going for, thank you so much for responding. If you happen to think of any others, feel free to post more. There's no shame in being a movie nerd :P

I'm with you on the gore and slasher movies - I LOVE horror movies but they have to be more psychological, creepy, leave it to your imagination more...

So if you're still interested and since Halloween is here again soon, I would suggest the following:

The Shining
The Haunting (original Robert Wise version from the early sixties)
The Others
Any movie directed by Guillermo del Roro especially The Orphanage
The Sixth Sense if you have not already seen it!
The Innocents
The Changeling (George C Scott)
The Grudge and especially the Japanese version: Ju-On
