| Night Cruising in Malate | | | | The last time I was in Manila, Baywalk was still there, but the current mayor had the stalls and restaurant demolished. We used to cruise Baywalk and then cross the road to Malate, known as Manila's most popular district. THe whole area comes alive as soon as the night falls. It is noticeable that Malate has undergone a lot of major changes. There are more pubs and restaurants but Aristocrat is still there now bigger and better. A large lit dancing fountain dominates the Remedios Circle where lots of people swarmed and some selling their products and wares. We walked further down Adriatico, looking much like Patpong of Thailand sans the night markt stalls and seedy shows, (though we walked into one bar and saw a bit of pole dancers- we bolted out right away!)We could hear the cacophony of sounds coming from the bars as we walk along the streets. It was busy and there were hubbub of peddlers, vendors, hawkers and pretty girls handing flyers for their happy hour specials. Plastic garden chairs and table lined the sidewalks where they lure you to sit and have a beer or so. We were looking for a cosy place with music or band and as we plod along checking each bar, a relentless little girl has been following us asking money for food. I told her I'll feed her instead and so we marched to the nearest Tapsilog, little did I know that there were 10 kids behind her! I was like a PiedPiper with rats following me! I fed them all and my mate had a good laugh and told me while I am at it, might as well put up an orphanage or adapt them! It must be midnight and these kids were still out in the streets. I wonder where their parents are and why they allow children as young as 5 be out peddling! I sent them home after eating and it felt good! | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | |

| | Well, it seems that the new mayor has his own agenda or could be a vendetta!;)LoL I really think he (Manila Mayor Lim) made this too personal, as I see no problems why he demolished/removed Baywalk. Maybe it's because of his age and don't know how to live a life at times, but whatever his motive's are, I hope that he did the RIGHT thing here. I've been there many times, sometimes having some drink with friends. But not that much though, since a can of beer is very expensive!;) One place I love going to while in Malate was a bar named "Caliente" where you can jam and sing-along with the house band, mostly music from the past like rock and folk songs!;) | | | | | | | moolahmagnet (2223)

| | G'day raijin! Yeah, my mate asked me why they removed Baywalk as it has been a good night attraction to locals and foreigners alike. I guess you're right too that the mayor Lim is too conservative compared to Atienza. It is probably looking like a ghost baywalk now, I wonder if there are still a lot people hanging around there just to watch the sunset or feel the breeze without the entertainment! | | | | raijin (6691)

| | From what I've heard, nobody's enjoying the place anymore. Only a few walks on that place, as they don't have any place to to unwind and hang around. | | | | moolahmagnet (2223)

| | Awww! That's bad and sad! I bet the Manila city council have lost a bit of revenues! BTW, I think we went pass Caliente but next time we'll check it out. We were impressed with the band playing and the margaritas in that Cuban Pub in Adriatico, I wonder if it is there. | | | | raijin (6691)

| | Caliente is along J. Bocobo, haven't been much to Adriatico either as I often go to Manila these days so I'm not sure if it's still there. The new administration told the public that Manila has lots of debts to pay, since the former Mayor left tons of credits for the Municipality to shoulder. I don't buy it, since Lim removed Baywalk which is one of the city's means of gathering revenues. Well that's his choice, I'm afraid people will voice out their opinions since Lim is known for his notoriety!;) | | | | | | | Painting Contractors Find Local Painting Contractors & yellowpages.com | add comment | | | |
