How affected are you by the massive toy recalls?

Not at all because i don't play with toy anymore and i don't have kids. And i'm too scabby to buy my cousins Fisher-Price or Mattel toys anyway!

Not yet but I will be very soon. Our holiday season kicks off now with my youngest son's birthday, then we have another birthday before Christmas. I will definitely be paying close attention to what we purchase this year. For the little ones especially since they are the ones that would be most affeced by the recalls...they seem to have mostly involved choking hazards and the lead paint if the toys were chewed on.

i havent been affected personally. my sister has with her 5yr old though, i think she got rid of 2 or 3 different toys.
but i am very concerned over what IS safe and what might later be said ISNT safe, when it comes to xmas shopping for my neice and nephew.
im thinking that they are gonna get stuffed animals or a cute new outfit. im just too worried about sending some toy i know they will love, but might make them sick!

Yes, I am actually still waiting for an envelope in the mail, to send out "sarge" (from the movie cars). I've emailed them 3 times about it, and am still waiting, once i send him out.. it will be about 2 months before i get a new voucher in the mail, to purchase another cars toy, (hopefully not infected with lead paint) It's so sad. Personally, I feel they need to come up with a better system. I understand that would drive the price of toys up, but my children could actually use LESS toys (as could many i'm sure). I would be willing to pay much more money for a toy, if they could ensure it was first of all safe, and secondly, if I never had to go through this mess. A year and a half ago, one of my son's toys was recalled, as a part was proven to be a choking hazard, Hasbaro (the company that produced the toy) was very efficent and sent us a 50 dollar gift certificate for a new toy as well. We got to keep the original toy, only we had to send back a certain part. They really handled it well. Mattel, however really hasn't done anything impressive. i have been waiting since the immediate recall to recieve the envelope to send in sarge.. and when I finally get the gift certificate, it's only for 7 dollars.. They really should have done more.. almost makes you not want to buy from them.

We've had several toys that were recalled, along with some other baby stuff. It makes it really hard to shop for his Christmas and birthday presents. We aren't buying any more new toys for him this year that were made in China. We're only buying him handmade toys now I think. But we've already bought some that were made in China for presents. Hopefully none of them will end up recalled.

Not at all, actually. Didn't have any of the toys that were recalled. Also I tend to go with Vtech, Leap and similar toys for my son. Most of the other toys that I get for him (puzzles, blocks, etc) are made in the US anyway.

All the recalls don't really affect me. I don't have any children. And if I do buy stuff for children in my family I usually just buy clothes. But it is awful to think that what may bring joy to a young child, could as well harm it too. What I don't understand, why all of a sudden all of these recalls. 10 years ago I don't remember hearing about so many recalls on children's toys.
