Christmas tree decorating.... |
|
Do you decorate your tree and home before Thanksgiving or do you wait until right before Christmas? When I was still living at home many years ago, I had a girlfriend whose family always bought a live tree and decorated it like on Christmas Eve. My parents always had the tree up after Thanksgiving, and we enjoyed it for many weeks before Christmas. Some take theirs down Christmas Day or the day after. What is your tradition for decorating and taking them back down again? One year I actually left my decorations and tree up til the end of January! I just love the trees, lights and decorations. And I hate for it to end and feel sad at the end of the holidays. Merry Christmas!!

1. Angel4you730 (109) | 3 years ago | We usually go out and get our christmas tree the week after thanksgiving and take it down about a week or two after christmas. I like to have it up early to enjoy the holiday season. It always seems like such a waste to put it up on christmas eve, because then you can only enjoy it on christmas day. I know some kids are made to believe that Santa claus puts up your christmas tree for you, but that seems like so much work of having to put up a tree and decorate it without the kids seeing you do it. I was always brought up thinking that you had to put the tree up yourself because Santa doesn't have time to put up everyone's tree for them.

drannhh (7532) | 3 years ago | We just hang a few small decorations and string lights on our fake ficus tree and leave them up all year round. Of course, we are gone the whole summer, so we don't see them year round. We leave the lights up, but not plugged into the wall or turned on until December.
We have cute little cloth door hangers that go around the know on the outside during the holidays and then we just switch them to the inside the rest of the time. That way whenever I open a closet door there is a little reminder that XMas is just around the corner.
I guess you can't get by with doing that sort of things when there are kids in the house, though.

2. toni_nakama (2292) | 3 years ago | In my family back in the Philippines, we started decorating our house and putting up Christmas tree and lights after Halloween. Here in Sydney, my husband brings the live tree two to three days before Christmas. No much time for kids to enjoy it. This week I will buy a Christmas tree and let my daughter decorate it with me, so we'll have more time to enjoy the Christmas tree.

7. GardenGerty (20382) | 3 years ago | When my kids were little, to keep things fairly normal, we waited until about December 15 to put it up. I have always used January 6, the twelfth day of Christmas, as the date I wanted to take down the tree. I think for me it goes with whatever job I am working at, and how busy I am. I have some things that I leave up most of the time. I learned of a custom from my husband's back ground, of hanging stars from a loft. I began collecting different star ornaments, and others have made or given them to me. I will leave them hanging most of the year. My nod to Christmas, so to speak.

8. SomethingGood332 (1344) | 3 years ago | My grandmother puts up at least 2 trees, my mother puts up one or 2, my sister may put up one, my husband's grandparents put up 2-3, and my uncle makes a Christmas tree forest. I don't even bother. Last year, we were military, living far away from family and intending to go home for the holidays. The apartment complex where we were living at the time gave everyone a live poinsettia. As I wrapped presents, I just put them under the poinsettia, on a shelf, and hung the few Christmas I got b/f leaving around the set-up. We had a maid service come to clean the house every few weeks, and the girls really got a kick out of our little Christmas Corner, as they called it. I tape up Christmas cards, and wrap presents, but that is about it for my Christmas decorating. Makes easy clean-up.

PurpleTeddyBear (3807) | 3 years ago | Wow! Don't get me wrong ... I love the feeling of Christmas too! Right after Thanksgiving seems kind of soon doesn't it? It won't even be December yet by the time you put it up! Is a good idea though, that will get you into the spirit of Christmas real quick!

10. carmelanirel (6329) | 3 years ago | My husbands family put it up on Christmas eve when he was growing up, but by the time I met him, his Mom kept it up year round and decorated it with different things for each season. I can't remember when I was a child when we put it up, but I do remember it was at least a few weeks before Christmas. Today, because the whole family is here during Thanksgiving weekend, that is when mine goes up..:)
