Sores in the mouth |
| |
| I have got some painful sores in my mouth. This isn't new to me. I have been getting sores in my mouth ever since I was a kid. They torture me for three to four days, and sometimes for a week before disappearing. Sometimes Vit B Plex Forte helps, and sometimes it doesn't. Does anyone know about painful sores in the mouth? What causes them? How do we prevent/ cure them? | | | | | |

| | Yes friend, i had some sore like that in my mouth, i applied butter for 3 days i got some relief. but it is not permanent cure.. I am sharing an article on this. "They are annoying and painful and there are plenty of things that can cause them such as bacterial, viral or fungal infections. A loose orthodontic wire, a denture that doesn’t fit, or a sharp edge from a broken tooth or filling may also be the culprit. Mouth sores may be symptoms of a disease or disorder. A dentist should examine any mouth sore that lasts a week or longer. Among the most common mouth sores are:Canker sores. Small ulcers with a white or gray base and a red border. Unlike cold sores, canker sores appear inside the mouth. And, they are not contagious. There may be only one canker sore or several and they often return. Their exact cause is uncertain but some experts believe that immune system problems, bacteria or viruses may be involved. Fatigue, stress or allergies can increase the likelihood of a canker sore. A cut caused by biting the cheek or tongue, or reactions from hot foods or beverages may contribute to canker sore development. Intestinal problems, such as ulcerative colitis and Crohn’s disease, also seem to make some people more susceptible. An example of a canker sore. View Larger Photo Link opens in separate window. Pop-up Blocker may need to be disabled. Treating Canker Sores: They usually heal on their own after a week or two, but an outbreak may occur. Over-the-counter topical anesthetics and antimicrobial mouthrinses may provide temporary relief. Stay away from hot, spicy or acidic foods that can irritate the sore. Antibiotics and some oral bandages can reduce secondary infection. Cold sores. Annoying and painful, cold sores, also called fever blisters or Herpes simplex, are groups of fluid-filled blisters. They often erupt around the lips and sometimes under the nose or around the chin. Cold sores caused by herpes virus type 1 are very contagious. The initial infection (primary herpes), which often occurs before adulthood, may be confused with a cold or flu and can cause painful lesions to erupt throughout the mouth. An example of a cold sore. View Larger Photo Link opens in separate window. Pop-up Blocker may need to be disabled. Once a person is infected with primary herpes, the virus stays in the body and causes occasional attacks. For some people, the virus remains inactive. Recurring herpes lesions look like multiple tiny fluid-filled blisters (cold sores) that most commonly appear around the edge of the lips. An attack may follow a fever, sunburn, skin abrasions or emotional upset. Treating cold sores: Cold sore blisters usually heal in a week by themselves. Over-the-counter topical anesthetics can provide some relief. Prescription antiviral drugs may reduce these kinds of viral infections. Leukoplakia. Thick, whitish-color patch that forms on the inside of the cheeks, gums or tongue. These patches are caused by excess cell growth and are common among tobacco users. They can result from irritations such as an ill-fitting denture or the habit of chewing on the inside of the cheek. A danger is that leukoplakia can progress to cancer. Your dentist may recommend a biopsy if the patch appears threatening. An example of leukoplakia. View Larger Photo Link opens in separate window. Pop-up Blocker may need to be disabled. Treating leukoplakia: The dentist examines the lesion and checks the biopsy results to help determine how to manage the disease. Treatment begins with removing the factors that contribute to the lesion: quitting tobacco or replacing ill-fitting dentures or bridges. Candidiasis. This fungal infection (also called moniliasis or oral thrush) occurs when the yeast Candida albicans reproduce in large numbers. It is common among denture wearers and most often occurs in people who are very young, elderly, debilitated by disease, or who have a problem with their immune system. People who have dry mouth syndrome are very susceptible to candidiasis. Candida may flourish after antibiotic treatment, which can decrease normal bacteria in the mouth. An example of candidiasis. View Larger Photo Link opens in separate window. Pop-up Blocker may need to be disabled. Treating candidiasis: Control focuses on preventing or controlling the conditions that caused the outbreak. Good oral hygiene is essential. Clean dentures to remove Candida and remove them at bedtime. Saliva substitutes and prescription medications may be helpful when the underlying cause is incurable or unavoidable. "HEALTH IS WEALTH | Mouth sores

| | Thanks for your response, my friend. In India, most food is spicy, and sores or no sores, we have to eat spicy food. For the past seven days, I have swallowed morsels of spicy fish and meat dishes without biting or rolling them round my mouth as I usually do. A waste of good food! But, I had no other choice. | | | |

| | You are right friend. There are dietary food which give relief. " deficiencies may lead to scurvy which impairs wound healing, which can contribute to ulcer formation. Similarly deficiencies in vitamin B12, iron[citation needed], zinc and folic acid[citation needed] have been linked to oral ulceration. A common cause of ulcers is Coeliac disease, in which case consumption of wheat, rye, or barley can result in chronic oral ulcers. If gluten intolerance is the cause, prevention means taking most breads, pastas, cakes, pies, cookies, scones, biscuits, beers etc. out of the diet and substituting gluten-free varieties where available. Artificial sugars, such as those found in diet cola and sugarless gum, have been reported as causes of oral ulcers as well." nice day | | | |

| | Hey positive I can sympathize with you. When I was a kid I got those sores all the time. My dr at that time said it was from eating too much candy or it was the sugar. When I stopped eating much candy I stopped getting them. Now My granddaugher gets them all the time too. Zink is what you need My granddaughter forgets to take it. If she would she wouldn't keep getting them. Also they are caused by stress. You can take L-Lysine to help get over them faster. This works for my granddaughter. Hope this helps because I know they can make life miserabel | | | | | | |

| | Thanks a lot for your informative response, my friend. Luckily, I don't have a sweet tooth, and I hardly eat sweets. But, it could be zinc deficiency. I will make a note of L-Lysine. Hope I get it at the drug store. I am not sure of its availability here. | | | |

| | Thanks a lot for your informative response, drpriti! Now that you have pointed it out, I have noticed the relationship between mental stress and sores in the mouth. I have just lost my job, am trying to grapple with a lousy relationship, and am trying to get adjusted to two new pets at the same time. No wonder I have sores! I do believe in the positive effects of homeopathy. I had taken homeopathic treatment once when I was a kid (not for the sores problem, though) Thanks for the link; I will look it up. Happy Mylotting! | | | |

| | I get ulcers inside my mouth. Sometimes I get like 4 of them together. It is very painful. I've heard that a lot of acidic foods, or too much soda might be the culprit. Stress can cause them, too. I learned this trick from an older lady years ago back when my brother had ulcers. I take a swig of Mylanta and swish it in my mouth. Make sure to not swallow it, unless you want to, I guess. I hope this helps. | | | | | | |

| | i do get sores in the mouth. they would come out if i accidentally bite my inner lip or if i inadvertently give a hard push on my toothbrush while brushing and hitting the insides of my mouth. i also get them after 3 to 5 days of not having a bath or shower due to illness or hospital confinement. my folks say that it's the heat stored in my body and they are coming out through the sores. anyway, whatever the cause, these sores are really annoying, painful and can even dampen my self-esteem if they appear outside or on the lips. sometimes, i would not report for work because i fell ashamed facing people while i have these sores. i just let them be. they disappear after a week or two, depending on the size and number of the sores. | | | | | | |

| | I used to get them all the time. It hurt the most when I still had braces. Fortunately, the last mouth sore I got was a month ago. As soon as 1 would appear, I'd take double doses of Vitamin C to hasten the healing. I get canker sores when I accidentally bite my lips. Some fruits cause scratches to the lining of the lips and gums which may then cause the sore. I think diet plays a great role in mouth sore prevention. | | | | | | |

| | Thanks for your response, dianne!! Yeah, I do agree with you. Most health problems can be traced back to wrong eating habits. I guess I will be able to kiss sores good-bye only if I add a lot of fruit and vegetables to my diet. | | | |

| | Yes, I get these now and then. I used to get them all the time, but then a friend of mine informed me that there is a chemical used in most toothpastes that helps cause them. (Sorry, I forget the name of the chemical just now, but it was something like sodium sulfuride or something like that.) In any case, he recommended using Rembrandt toothpaste, which is one of the few that has one type specifically for canker sore sufferers. Once I switched, I hardly ever got them anymore. You should look into it. | | | | | | |

| | Thanks a lot, cdv!! This bit of information was new to me. It is quite possible... but, I have never heard of Rembrandt; the toothpaste I use is Colgate Active Salt. My grandparents hardly used any toothpaste. They used a mixture of powdered charcoal and salt. Some of my grandparents' contemporaries used a neem stick to brush their teeth. They did have dental problems though. Thanks again for your response. | | | |

| | A bite can cause them. If you bite your cheeks on accident or as a habit, it can cause them. I get them from time to time as well. Most of the time, they are either on the inside of my cheek down by my lower teeth or on the gumline of my lower teeth. There is a variety of tooth ache creams and gels that work great. I use them as they numb the area and it doesn't hurt for a good few hours. I just keep reapplying as needed to deaden the pain. You can get the creams and gels in your local store. They should be on the same aisle as the toothpaste. | | | | | | |

| | Thanks for sharing your experiences, my friend! I had the habit of biting my cheeks in my sleep when I was a kid. Luckily, I have outgrown the habit now. But these are different sores; the bruise caused by cheek biting is totally different. I have experienced both, and the cheek biting is much better compared to these sores. :) | | | |
