Wrap the pictures on your walls to look like presents. It's cheap, easy and makes a world of difference.

Buy a cheap fake wreath from walmart and put a 2 dollar strand of lights on it and a red bow. Hang on your wall. You won't even believe how aweseome it looks.

Scented Candles.

Homemade fudge is an excellent, thoughtful gift that EVERYONE loves. It's cheap to make too and it travels well, so it's ideal for shipping.

Two Words: DOLLAR STORE. You can seriously decorate your whole house and get wrapping, bows tape, etc...for like 50 bucks.

Best sugar cookie recipe EVER: http://allrecipes.com/Rec...

A homemade CD of your favorite Christmas music with some cookies and fudge is an excellent gift idea.

Best Christmas CDs EVER:

Amy Grant--Home for Christmas
Twila Paris--It's the Thought
Various Artists--Another Kind of Christmas
Various Artists---Old Time Country Christmas
Eric Williams--Accoustic Christmas Celebration

Okay guys...what are your holiday tips? Keep em easy and cheap!!

Another sanity saving tip. Lock the doors, pull the blinds, turnout the lights, throw the phone in the septic tank, lay down on the floor and try to sleep through till January 15th.

myLot reputation of 34/100. zukepr (11761)  5 years ago

I like your tips better
i may have to try a few of those LOL

myLot reputation of 93/100. clemorswhomp (504)  5 years ago

I feel honored that you answered one of my comments.

myLot reputation of 93/100. clemorswhomp (504)  5 years ago

Zuk, I think there may actually be hope for you. I see a tiny speck of humor poking its little head through that armour coated wall of seriousness. I would be glad to loan you my butt hole hat if you want.

myLot reputation of 55/100. sndcain (3075)  5 years ago

Clem, you're such a grinch....I think I need to get really drunk and come sing Christmas carols to you at 2am...that will get you in the spirit...

myLot reputation of 34/100. zukepr (11761)  5 years ago

I thought I would give twisted humor a crack just for you
You inspire me to be a bigger smart a$$

myLot reputation of 55/100. sndcain (3075)  5 years ago

OMG that is such a great idea...I would probably put mine in the yard though...lol

There is nothing like a little crack humor to work up some good wedgies.

pre lit Christmas tree!
Better yet, inflatable tree if you can find one and really dont want to mess with a tree LOL
E-cards! Saves a ton on postage
shop for food for big Christmas meal at a wholesale store like Aldis
Shop other wholesale stores (like Sams Club)for gifts and other items
Always buy wrapping supplies for the next year right after Christmas when they go on sale

myLot reputation of 55/100. sndcain (3075)  5 years ago

Inflatable tree? I'm intrigued...I've never seen one before...:)

How about a pre-lit, pre decorated tree? I saw one in those catalogs of useless crap once. I thought, "That's a great idea! What a time saver!"

myLot reputation of 48/100. MSV1313 (2239)  5 years ago

Inflatable tree? Is that what Santa uses instead of a blow up doll?

myLot reputation of 34/100. zukepr (11761)  5 years ago

yup inflatable trees
I had to do some hunting for them for a bear friend of mine that was sick of messing with trees LOL
Check it out.

You completely ignored my attempt at a dirty joke!
The inflatable tree is for Santa when Mrs. Claus is too busy with the elves. She likes the elves becasue they are a certain height for preforming cetain services...

myLot reputation of 34/100. zukepr (11761)  5 years ago

Im sorry I didnt completely ignore it
I was laughing but you got to remember that I am the one that has a broken sense of humor LOL

myLot reputation of 55/100. sndcain (3075)  5 years ago

Oops...lol I replied in the wrong response...look up for my comment about the inflatable tree...haha

myLot reputation of 93/100. clemorswhomp (504)  5 years ago

Its been so long, If I could get my tree to inflate I would quickly hang an ornament on it, preferably an angel.

myLot reputation of 55/100. sndcain (3075)  5 years ago

Duuuudeee!! That was an AWESOME comeback.... ROFL

I'm going to be laughing all day now.

Wow , you are like a much less bytchy Martha Stewart for regular people! (Martha's stuff is usually for people who have money.)
I don't have any good holiday tips, except for this one:
Just go to someone else's house! You save yourself form all the time effort an money involved in doing things at your own house, but you still get to see pretty things and eat tasty food! Haven't you ever wondered why everyone wants to come to YOUR house? LOL

myLot reputation of 55/100. sndcain (3075)  5 years ago

LOL that IS a great idea...in fact, that's what my mom is doing...She finally gets to enjoy Christmas without stressing and fretting...that she leaves up to me...haha

Martha Stewart can kiss my butt...Maybe if I was a gazillionaire with a full staff of assistants and a whole lot of time on my hand, I could do what she does, but those of us who live in the real world know how to take all the best shortcuts...

myLot reputation of 93/100. clemorswhomp (504)  5 years ago

Yes, best short cut, sleep through christmas.

Morning Sndcain,

Geesh, you've provided so many great suggestions! I can't think of much to add. Only these:

In addition to your scented candles suggestion, I'll add the following:

Slow simmer a small pot of water with a cinnamon stick, and a tbsp. of vanilla. This is even a good way to use the cheaper "Artificial Vanilla", that one would not wish to use in their baking. The house will smell so yummy, warm & inviting!!! Anyone who uses a wood stove probably already has a water pot on their stove. Adding the cinnamon & vanilla is a great, inexpensive way to instill the smells of Christmas -- or French Toast, however one might choose to perceive it.

Second, anyone who has satellite t.v. already has every Christmas song ever made available for their holiday listening pleasure. Every Christmas both Dish & Direct TV add a free 24x7 Christmas music station.

A cheap, easy, and ecologically nice thing to do is to pop some popcorn, and string popcorn & fresh cranberries onto string to adorn outdoor trees. The birds love it -- they'll gobble it all up. It's a simple thing for the family to do while they're watching t.v. And, it brings the festivity out of door, so that when we come and go from our homes, we're reminded of the Christmas Spirit.

I love the Fudge idea. Do you have a good Fudge recipe? I'm curious to see if I could adapt it. I usually make cookies, or pumpkin muffins to gift to friends & neighbors. This year it's going to be little pumpkin/spice cakes, all decked out in festive frosting & decoration.

myLot reputation of 55/100. sndcain (3075)  5 years ago

Those are really fantastic ideas! I'm, always looking for a "new tradition"

The simmer pot..that's a great one..I've done that many times...also, a "safer" way to go might be to get one of those mini crockpots...I put wax tarts in mine, but you could totally put a simmer mix in it as well.

My fudge recipe is so easy and so adaptable...

2 pkgs flavored chips
1 can sweetened condensed milk

Now, to make chocolate fudge, I use milk chips and white and add walnuts and vanilla

To make candy cane fudge, I add coarsely chopped candy canes and white chips

Orange--two bags white chips and orange extract. You can also had orange zest

PB Fudge, just use white chips and PB chips.

You get the picture...you really can't mess this up it's the easiest recipe in the world and it's very cheap to make.

myLot reputation of 78/100. ladyluna (2495)  5 years ago

Oh my ... I'm definitely going to have to try making your candy cane fudge. Mmmm, PB fudge.

I've never made fudge, so I had no idea how easy it is. OK, you've definitely got me on board.

Thanks a ton!

Oh, and you're right about the mini-crock being a safer alternative. They're not expensive, easy to find (any Walmart, KMart, Target), and they can be used year round. Good thinking!

I make rice pack heading pads, quillos, wind chimes and so many other things. I am a very frugal person. I make quality gifts homemade and they are always well received.

myLot reputation of 93/100. clemorswhomp (504)  5 years ago

How do they do at garage sales?

myLot reputation of 99/100. villageanne (5891)   ranked 270 out of 518 in holidays  5 years ago

I love shopping at garage sales. I purchase many items with the tags still on them as Christmas gifts. No, I am not cheap, I am frugal. I am the kind of person who offers a bit lower than they are asking for an item too. I have never been turned down either.

1.to save money from buying wrapping paper... just leave it in the walmart bag and tie a bow around it (don't want em to think yer cheap)

2. steal your neighbors chrissmus lites while he is at the tractor pull! saves ya a ton of money! and it's not like he/she has their names on their lites... they can't prove nuffin!

3.best Chrissmus recipe is "opossum pot pie" for extra garnish.. you can let the tail hang out from the middle of the pie :)

4. to spiffy up the place be sure and add lights to the engine hanging from the tree in the front yard... the trailer park will look buutiful!

5. grab a beer and go out and enjoy the view of yer hard werk!

Marry Chrissmus!

myLot reputation of 55/100. sndcain (3075)  5 years ago

OMG I totally went and stole all my neighbor's Christmas decorations after reading your post-- even the giant Nativity.

Do you think it's a sin to steal the baby Jesus though?

MMMMM...that opossum pie sounds yummy...do you serve it with road kill stuffing and mayonaise sandwiches?

myLot reputation of 82/100. elp388 (1846)  5 years ago

yer doing good!
I'm in the chrismmus spirits already! (Jack daniels and Jim Beam) like I said it's not like the neighbors can prove anything!
I would go ahead and steal the baby Jesus too.. you have Jesus in yer heart so you should have the baby Jesus in yer yard!
the possum pie is to die fer! that is some classic roadkill chrismuss food *holding up 3 thumbs* the mayo sammiches goes with it and I would pick huckleberry wine to drink with it.. when I asked Bubba he said not red wine.. or white.. but purple! remember that! and remember.. whoever gets the tail will have good luck all yeer!

mary chrismmus!

Hit the day after sales at stores. Stock up on lights, decorations, storage bins, set arounds, yard decor and tons of other Christmas items at up to 75% off of the regular during the season items. It pained me this year to have to buy Christmas lights. Evidently the ones I had last year that went outside got misplaced or I threw them away because they didn't work and I had to go out and buy 4 boxes of lights to finish decorating the outside of my house. I love going the day after Christmas because everything at Wal-Mart from candles to cards to lights to wreaths are all half off. Such a great bargain!

Butchers paper works great for wrapping paper and it's a lot cheaper than wrapping paper. Get your kids to draw Christmas themed pictures on them and use that paper for family members, school presents or donations. The kids will have a blast doing it and when it's all over with, the sentimental value of the pictures drawn on that paper are worth far more than store bought paper.
