Football player shot and killed, who keeps a machete by their bed?   

From what I've heard, ORyans, maybe it could be because his house was either burgled, or there was an attempt recently. Like you, I wouldn't choose a machete as a weapon to defend my family. That doesn't make a lot of sense. I am also wondering why there was no burglar alarm system, especially given the fact of the previous attempt.

The story also said that the house had been broken into just a week prior to that incident. The guy has had trouble with guns so I guess a machete makes a substitute he could feel safe with, after all it is how the protection you carry makes you feel that counts.

I think that it is a tragedy that such a young man was taken from this earth over something so senseless. Personally my fiance keeps a 40 kal next to our bed or under the mattress for protection. We also have to guns on the wall that can be used. In todays world its better to be safe then sorry. I certaintly don't think that they should be left where a child can get a hold of them but reasonable protection should always be considered. Not only do we have personal protections we also have to large dogs...a pit bull and a rottweiler. Its scary to think that someone would come into your home and not be protected.

I don't know anything about his early life but I heard that he was turning his life around. I guess he had some ex pals that were dangerous if he needed a machete.
