In the winter do you get chapped hands? |
| |
| Every winter I get chapped hands. I have my hands in water a lot, and I guess that might be the problem. I keep Vasoline Intensive Care Lotion handy, but my skin on the sides of my hand above my pinky fingers are rough and I can see the dry skin. I guess I must be missing some of the essential oils in my skin. Does anyone else have that problem. I am not as bad as my mother was when she was alive. In the winter her hands would crack and bleed in the winter months. Do you get that way? I know I can't be the only one who thinks she has alligator skin on her hands at times. Today is not so bad, but some days are worse, and I wonder if maybe I am not getting enough fats in my diet sometimes. It seems to me that I would be getting enough. I take my vitamins and all... so I am stumped as to why my skin gets so dry. | | | | | |

| | YES! Lol. My hands get really dry and chapped in winter. And now with my new job they get even worse because i work with a cleaning chemical that can be bad for your hands. I usually wear gloves when I work with it, but sometimes it still gets on my hands. I use a lot of lotion, but it doesn't help much! | | | | | | |

| | I know what you mean! I don't think lotion helps all that much either sometimes. I think they are mostly water and they help for a bit, but then it evaporates out of your skin and it is dry again. I have days and weeks that I am worse than now. Some days I get really sore hands that do crack a bit.. but they don't bleed like my mom's did. I think it might be the dish liquid too. I did change to dawn liquid, and I think they are a bit better than they were but still dry. I don't use the lotion every time I get my hands in water. Maybe I should keep a bottle at the sink and use it more often... maybe that would help. I feel for you, that you also suffer with this in the winter. I really appreciate the conversation here, so thanks for coming by. Talk with you later I hope. :D | | | |

| | My hands never really bleed either. But I do have a couple of small cracks in the skin, and they always just look so terrible and dry! And sometimes they burn really bad! That is always the worst of it, I hate the burning! Sometimes I put vaseline on my hands, but not often because it's a pain! lol. | | | |

| | Oh My Goodness MSV! I am so sorry you are suffering. You do have it bad. And the nerve problem too has to make it so miserable for you. Maybe you could use gloves when washing your bottles and things.. To me, I just can't stand wearing gloves. I too am glad I am not alone in this problem. I do hope you do get some relief though. Avon used to sell a product called Silicone Glove... I don't know if they still do. I used to buy Avon products, but I just can't afford to anymore. I really loved chatting with you MSV. Please do come by again... maybe we can have a bit of coffee..lolz... my coffee is the cheap brand and not so good this time.. money was short... but what the heck... Thanks for the chat! Have a great day...:D | | | |

| | My sister is an Avon lady, I'll ask her about the silicon glove. I am not a big fan of gloves becasue Ihave a hard enough time gettng my hands to do what I tell them, gloves would be more of a nuisance than the bloody hands. I've had this problem for years and have learned to accept it, so don't feel too bad for me - it could be worse. No matter how bad any of us has it, it could always be worse. Don't worry about the coffee, I'll bring some from home LOL. As broke as we are, two things we will not skimp on are Coffee and Coca-cola. We'll go cheap on everything else, but these things we cannot live without. I've tried cheaper vrsions of Coke and coffee and just couldn't stomach them. So I get pretty much everything else generic, on sale, or go without to make enough room in my tiny budget for these must have creature comforts. LOL I find it nice talking with you also. | | | |

| | silicone glove is one of the best products out there for dry hands that crack so much and bleed.being a hairdresser my hands get very dry, back when i was working in my salon my hands got so bad where they would bleed and look like i put my hands through a piece of glass.i actually had to wear socks on my hands at night with loads of vaseline until i came across the silicone glove.the silicone glove worked so great because you can wash the dishes or anything and your hands are protected while you are in the water.please do get this item it is wonderful!and it only cost like five dollars or so.pattie | | | |

| | Yeah, with Silicone Glove you can put it on and it stays on for a long time... you don't have to reapply every time you wash your hands. I wish I had some. | | | |

| | My friend back in UK gets chapped every winter. She had to wear gloves always when we go out. I gave her hand moisturizers and tell her to drink water every now and then, well weird but i dont know i just feel drinking water when im out in the cold. Like heat it dries up you skin as well as cold. To prevent it from chapping limit the length of exposing to water and use mild soaps. Then dont forget to put hand creams or u can use oil because some creams when you wash your hands the moisture goes off.In my case sometimes, i uses baby oil. For home remedy you can use a buttermilk and almond oil. Mix it well, then apply to your hands. Massaged and let it dry then apply again until you use all the solution.wear cotton gloves. Then next morning, rinse it ( Yes, u go to sleep with the solution on your hand. This will makes your skin soft and maintain good texture. You can do it at night before bedtime. Hope it helps. | | | | | | |

| | Wow! That is fantastic. Buttermilk? Just mix buttermilk and almond oil... hmmm. I wonder if I can get almond oil in the supermarket? I have really bad cuticles.. they tear and I pull them off and I get so sore there too. I will have to try that. I do love buttermilk anyway, so I could buy some to use on my hands with some oil. I sometimes buy olive oil..if I cannot find this almond oil, I might substitute with olive oil. I really believe that might help me. Thanks so much, and thanks for telling me. I appreciate the chat. Hope to talk with you later. | | | |

| | well i am in kind of the same boat, i find that in the winter, my finger tips get so dry! the rest of my hands are not too bad and i put lotion on twice a day (summer and winter) but maybe it is because i wear gloves in the winter? i am not sure! | | | | | | |

| | I wonder? It seems that the gloves would protect you from getting dry from wind burn and stuff. I don't know. I'm not sure, but I almost think that is a medical condition... but I cannot place what that goes with. You may not peal on your fingertips... but I remember something from my nursing days that dry flaking fingertips was a symptom of something. You might mention it to your doc the next time you have to go. Maybe it is nothing but what you mentioned about the gloves.. anyway... I am glad you stopped by... and hope to talk to you again later. :D | | | |

| | I've never had a rash from the cold, I don't think.. but I do get dry. I can see the skin cells sticking up from my hand... I guess it's not really individual skin cells but I can see the flaking on the skin right now. I think it has to do with the cold in the house too. We have electric space heaters and one or two gas ones... and I think the air gets dry. Maybe I should start keeping a bit of water boiling for a few minutes to put moisture in the house every day.. don't know if that would help, but I might try it. Thanks for coming by chunter. Nice talking to you. :D | | | |

| | I have dry hands year round. The best thing on the market that has worked for me when nothing else has (and lord knows I spent a lot of money on lotions trying to find something that would work) is Vaseline Itensive rescue, moisture lacking lotion. I put it on and almost immediately feel relief. I put it on last thing at night and in morning hands are not ruff and dry! I use it all day long - well, okay, not ALL day - but after dishes or housework and a few times during the day. It really works well. | | | | | | |

| | My hands take a beating in the winter too. I wash my hands alot too, that is part of it. Get some really good hand cream and make sure you use that at night, that way you don't wash it off right away. You can also try this. Put vasoline on your hands and then wear white cotten gloves to bed or white socks on your hands. It really does help alot. You can also buy vasoline creamy. I have been using Curel lotion that helps too. Good luck, lots of us have the same problem, you just have to keep putting cream on your hands. | | | | | | |

| | Now, Curel is a good lotion, I have had that before. I need to get some white gloves.. don't have any. I guess I could probably get some at walmart or someplace like that. I think part of my problem is that I am not consistent in keeping my hands moisturized. Thanks for stopping by and I will talk to you later. :D | | | |

| | I am not sure why you have such dry skin when you take such good care of it. My Scleroderma and Raynaud's causes my skin to crack and harden and turn black and blue in temps above 60s. You might want to ask a doctor and see if there is something they can perscribe to help your skin so that it does not crack and bleed. Take care and God Bless! | | | | | | |

| | You have Raynauds disease? I had a friend with that and she really suffered with cold. I think my problem is that I am not consistent. I may forget to use it after dishes and I forget to use it before bed sometimes... the thing is that gets me is that I don't keep moisture in my skin, but I am seeing other folks are the same way. I know the scleroderma has to be terrible with the hardening of the skin. I sometimes get hard skin over my side of my hand... it isn't so hard now.. just dry and flaky. Hope you do well with your medical issues. I know how Raynauds does people. I have 2 friends actually. One has to stay by a heater in the summer time even... because she gets so cold. | | | |

| | Air conditioning is hard on people like myself with Raynaud's so I feel for your friend who has to stay by a heater even in the summer time. I wear gloves in the winter when it is cold around the house and I do not know if this would help you with your hands but it is worth a try! | | | |

| | Hi:) I use a cream called,"GLYCERINE HAND CREAM/BALM" in the winter months when its dry.Its very good and the key is to use a cream that will lock the moisture in and continue to do so after an extended period of time.Plus if you have severe chapped hands, you can put ALOT of moisture cream on your hands and wrap them in a plastic bag or buy gloves in the pharmacy which are for this and wear them on your hands for an hour, they will give your hands a moisture treat.
